When the pandemic shut the sports world down in 2020, Ryan Walker didn't have much hope of ever reaching the big leagues. As he contemplated his future plans, Walker, who lives in the Phoenix area, met a local locksmith and struck up a conversation while he got new keys for his truck. When Walker did so, he found that he was essentially thrown into the fire. In an odd way, Walker thinks that helped him ultimately reach his goals as a reliever. 3/05/25 | San Francisco Giants Star Reliever Reveals What Led to Major League Breakthrough. The San Francisco Giants stumbled upon a diamond in the rough when they selected pitcher Ryan Walker with the No. 916 overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft. “I think that's what kept me in the game, honestly,” Walker said, via Tyler Kepner of The Athletic (subscription required).
