Schwarber and Harper lead Phillies' power display in 9-3 victory over the Padres. Kyle Schwarber homered on Joe Musgrove’s fourth pitch and Bryce Harper also had one of the Philadelphia Phillies’ five home runs in a 9-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. Musgrove (3-3) allowed a career-high four homers and didn’t get out of the fourth. Aaron Nola (4-1) was brilliant in pitching eight innings for the second straight start. He struck out 10 for the first time this season and 31st time in his career, while holding San Diego to three runs and seven hits, with one walk. His only big mistake was allowing rookie Graham Pauley’s two-run homer in the seventh, his second. Schwarber’s shot was his 100th in a Phillies uniform.

Joey Ortiz hit a run-scoring single in the 11th inning and finished with a homer and four RBIs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-6 win over the New York Yankees on Friday night. Owen Miller, inserted as a pinch runner for former Yankee Gary Sánchez at second to start the 11th inning, advanced to third on a fly ball to right field by Brice Turang. Ortiz then singled through the legs of third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera, driving in the winning run. Jared Koenig (2-0) picked up the win with two innings of relief. Michael Tonkin (1-3) took the loss. Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham homer for the Yankees.

Hot bullpen boosts Cardinals' optimism against Mets. Miles Mikolas and three relievers led St. Louis past New York 4-2 on Friday. The Mets generated plenty of traffic against Mikolas, who allowed seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Martinez's RBI double chased Mikolas, but JoJo Romero struck out Jeff McNeil, representing the potential tying run, to begin an impressive stretch by Cardinals relievers.

Joey Meneses hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning and the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 3-1 on Friday night. Jacob Young and Trey Lipscomb had two hits each while Derek Law (1-1) struck out five over two scoreless innings of relief for the Nationals. “That's a good win on the road — first game of a series,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said.

Alec Burleson snaps power drought with a 3-run homer, leading Cardinals past Mets 4-2. Alec Burleson hit his first homer in almost nine months, a three-run blast that powered the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-2 win over the New York Mets. Burleson’s second-inning round-tripper was his first since he homered against the Minnesota Twins last Aug. 3. J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in his Mets debut. Martinez signed a one-year contract March 23 but was sidelined by lower back stiffness. Sale, Ozuna lead Braves past Guardians 6-2 in matchup of MLB's two best teams. Chris Sale shook off another leadoff homer and Marcell Ozuna kept up his torrid start with two more RBIs, leading the Atlanta Braves past the Cleveland Guardians 6-2 in a matchup between MLB’s two best teams. The Braves won for the 10th time in 11 games to improve to 18-6, while the Guardians slipped to 18-8. Sale surrendered a leadoff homer to Steven Kwan, but that was pretty much it. He pitched two-hit ball over seven innings. Ozuna's two-run double in the fourth put the Braves ahead. He's now got 31 RBIs on the season, the most ever for a Braves player before the start of May. Patrick Bailey hits walk-off home run, Giants beat Pirates 3-0. Patrick Bailey hit a walk-off three-run homer and the San Francisco Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-0 on Friday. The game was scoreless until the ninth, when Michael Conforto walked and Matt Chapman singled to begin the inning off Pirates reliever David Bednar. Bailey then drilled a homer to right field. Chris Sale sailing along for first-place Braves, hoping for injury-free season. Chris Sale was hesitant to discuss how good he's feeling after another strong start for the Atlanta Braves. It's understandable that Sale wouldn't want to jinx himself after all the injuries he endured with the Boston Red Sox. Once one of the game's most dominant pitchers, the guy with the funky motion and nasty stuff, Sale managed just 31 starts over the past four seasons, spending far more time in the training room than he did on the mound.

Chicago Cubs find bullpen depth from unlikely place. The Chicago Cubs have reportedly signed 28-year-old pitcher Daniel Missaki, a Brazilian-born player who most recently played with the Diablo Rojos in the Mexican League. It's an intriguing move that could provide some depth to a Cubs bullpen that has already taken a major blow with the loss of set-up man Julian Merryweather. Since Merryweather went down in early April, former closer Adbert Alzolay has struggled mightily in the ninth inning, having already surpassed his blown save mark from last year (3) in the first month of 2024. If the bullpen takes another hit via injury or poor performance, perhaps Nissaki can eventually slide in and try to prove himself in MLB again.
