Justin Herbert (QB - LAC)

7/1/25 3:16 PM -
Is Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh overrated?. Very few NFL coaches receive as much public recognition as Jim Harbaugh, who took the Los Angeles Chargers' job in his return to the professional level last year. Immediately upon adding Harbaugh, the Chargers were viewed as a potential sleeper in the AFC, and they delivered by winning 11 games and making the playoffs while playing a smashmouth brand of football. Los Angeles was bounced in the Wild Card Round, but armed with significant cap space and one of the league's best pure passers in Justin Herbert, the offseason seemed very promising in LA.

During a 7-on-7 football event on June 28, Smith, who is a coach for the team South Florida Express (SFE), was seen in a video posted to social media trash talking the opponent on the sidelines and shouting "That's why they pay me the big bucks!" during his team's win, which was broadcast on NFL Network.

Commanders' Terry McLaurin Could Land With Steelers, Aaron Rodgers. It has been an interesting offseason for former Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who is at odds with the Washington Commanders over his contract. In the event that the Commanders aren't able to strike a pact with the two-time Pro Bowler, a trade could be possible, and Romell Williams of FanSided has named the Pittsburgh Steelers as a potential landing spot for him. "The Steelers are going all-in on the present, adding Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith, while trading away George Pickens," Williams wrote.

CINCINNATI — The team at Pro Football Network put together top Rookie of the Year candidates for all 32 NFL teams recently and two dark-horse names emerged for Cincinnati: Demetrius Knight Jr. on defense and Tahj Brooks on offense. Knight figures to have more than enough snaps to bring potential strong play into the mix at linebacker. Cowboys' Matt Eberflus slighted in NFL defensive coordinator rankings. One of the primary reasons Dallas Cowboys Nation began to buy into new head coach Brian Schottenheimer was the staff he assembled. Sure, they all love his positive approach, but it's been easier to believe they can find success thanks to an All-Star collection of talent surrounding the first-time head coach. While many of the hires were home runs, the top name on Schottenheimer's staff is Matt Eberflus, their new defensive coordinator. Eberflus rose to prominence as a linebacker coach in Dallas, then proved to be a great defensive mind while serving as the defensive coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts.

Why Mattison Could Become Key Under-the-Radar Pick-Up. Alexander Mattison's one-year, $1.3 million deal ranks among Miami's cheapest offseason moves, yet the seventh-year back may help solve one of the offense's biggest flaws: short-yardage inconsistency. While the offense as a whole regressed last season, dropping from second to 23rd in yards per play, short-yardage struggles have been a steady issue under Mike McDaniel. At 5-11 and 220 pounds, Mattison brings a more physical profile than any back Miami rostered in 2024. Mattison, a 2019 third-round pick by the Vikings, has topped 130 rushing attempts in three of the past four seasons, including last year with the Raiders.

Las Vegas added a quarterback to get the ball to its pass-catchers more consistently, meaning we could see even better versions of Bowers and Mayer in 2025. Not only that, but the depth of Ian Thomas and Justin Shorter is impressive.

Setting the stage: Despite the well-publicized events of "Bullygate," the Dolphins found themselves still hoping for a playoff spot with a 7-6 record as they prepared to face the New England Patriots in Miami. Five days before the game, the Dolphins signed safety Michael Thomas off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad no doubt unaware of the huge role he was about to play. The play: The Dolphins trailed 20-17 before taking the lead on Ryan Tannehill's pass to Marcus Thigpen with 1:15 left in regulation, but then watched Tom Brady move the Patriots from their 20 to a first-and-10 at the Miami 19 with 27 seconds left.

Seahawks insider believes Mike Macdonald could make shocking OL change. Interesting enough, Ben Rolfe of Pro Football Sports Network ranked the offensive fronts in 2025 for all 32 clubs back in late April. While Zabel is expected to be the starter at left guard next to tackle Charles Cross, and Abraham Lucas (if healthy) should hold down the right tackle spot, there are uncertainties elsewhere.

More specifically, he wonders if the 29-year-old can replicate his success in scoring touchdowns after punching in 13 scores last season. "... There's a real chance that 2024 was the best season we'll see out of McLaurin.

Ben Johnson (TE - LAC)

6/30/25 7:39 AM -
Biggest defensive challenges ahead for Dennis Allen at Bears camp. The tendency is to look at the Bears as a team building an offense but with a defense already in place and waiting to win. This is largely because of the difficult task ahead for coach Ben Johnson building offensive success from complete failure. With Johnson in charge and new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen running things, the status quo has changed. While the Bears haven't gone straight from an attacking 4-3 to a read-and-react 3-4, their 4-3 defense will be using tactics far different than when Matt Eberflus helped GM Ryan Poles construct that side of the ball.

Former NY Giants QB Daniel Jones's Agent Offers Insight into 11th Hour Contract Negotiations. It's funny how things sometimes work out–or, in the case of the New York Giants, don't work out. The New York Giants were just coming off their first postseason appearance since 2016, one in which they won their first postseason game since 2011. Quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley were both up for new contracts, the Giants having decided not to exercise Jones's option year the prior spring. The plan was to get Barkley under contract before the 2023 season so that they would have the franchise tag available to use for Jones, a quarterback about whom they were still unsure despite his having had a strong season in 2022.

Bills' surprise pick in 2026 NFL mock draft could be blessing for Josh Allen. During the 2025 NFL draft, the Buffalo Bills were heavily focused on the defensive side of the ball. It's still far too early to dig too deep into the 2026 draft, but if the Bills hit on the majority of their picks, it would be logical to assume they'll target more offensive players next year. While that's expected, it would be surprising to see them go with an interior offensive lineman, which is the route ESPN's Matt Miller takes. Miller has Buffalo using the final pick in Round 1 on Florida center Jake Slaughter.

Jets-Packers Get Surprising Trade Idea To Bring $3.5 Million WR To New York. It's been one of the central questions of the New York Jets' offseason: Who will be the second wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson? Wilson has three straight 1,000-yard seasons to begin his career despite highly volatile quarterback play. The Jets are hoping Justin Fields, who hasn't established himself as a quality starter in his first four years in the league, can unlock his talent in New York and remove that volatility from the equation. It would take a ton of pressure off Wilson, Fields, head coach Aaron Glenn, and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand if the Jets had a steady WR2 to rely on in their offense.
