3/26/24 Tampa Bay Rays Opening Day 2024: How To Watch; World Series Odds. The Tampa Bay Rays are finally back in action on Thursday, March 28, with an Opening Day game against the Toronto Blue Jays. All 30 MLB teams will play on Opening Day for the second straight year, though the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres technically kicked off the regular season with a two-game series in Seoul, South Korea, last week. Here's what you need to know about the Rays first game. With Shane McClanahan recovering from Tommy John surgery, Zach Elfin is expected to take the mound for the Rays against the Blue Jays, according to MLB.com.

2/21/24 Attrition vs. tradition: After heavy losses, Tampa Bay Rays hope to defy odds yet again. In their nearly three decades of existence, the Tampa Bay Rays have given every reason for fans to fixate on what they don't have. After winning their first 13 games in 2023 and 27 of their first 33, elbow injuries shelved three members of their stellar pitching rotation, including ace Shane McClanahan. A season of great promise went sideways, yet even though they conceded the division crown, the Rays won 99 games and reached the playoffs a fifth consecutive year. The new year brought the trade of hard-throwing Tyler Glasnow to the Dodgers and the injured starters are still out, even if wounded pitchers Jeffrey Springs and Drew Rasmussen should return in the summer.

2/14/24 Tampa Bay Rays Opened Spring Training With Questions At Multiple Positions. Regardless of the set of power rankings you preferred to peruse heading into spring training, the Tampa Bay Rays are once again somewhere in the top 10. For different reasons, Shane McClanahan, Jeffrey Springs, Drew Rasmussen and Tyler Glasnow are not preparing for Grapefruit League action. Then there is Wander Franco, or the lack of Wander Franco, whose future remains uncertain. Not that manager Kevin Cash and president of baseball operations Erik Neander are hanging their heads.

1/11/24 Rays sign 8 of 10 arbitration eligible players. The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to terms for the 2024 season with eight of their 10 arbitration-eligible players, including a unique deal for rehabbing ace Shane McClanahan. Sugar Shane has signed a two-year, incentive laden contract while he recovers from Tommy John surgery, which he elected to have on August 21 last year, that will pay a base salary of $3.6 million in 2024 and 2025, with escalators for games started this season, which would increase his 2025 salary by $120,000 for each start. These incentives would seem to indicate that McClanahan could be ready for return near the end of the 2024 season (i.e. playoffs). The players agreed are listed below, descending in order of service time

12/16/23 Rays Have Plenty Of Rotation Options Following Tyler Glasnow Trade. When the Rays arrived for spring training in Lake Buena Vista 10 months ago, the rotation featured Shane McClanahan, Tyler Glasnow, Drew Rasmussen, Jeffrey Springs and Zach Eflin. The likes of Josh Fleming, Yonny Chirinos and Luis Patino were also in the mix with the possibility Taj Bradley, MLB.com's No. 20 prospect heading into 2023, would emerge at some point.
