4/22/24 SF Giants activate Luke Jackson, seek consistency from their bullpen. In a tight game with a division rival, Erik Miller, Sean Hjelle and Nick Avila was not the bullpen combination Bob Melvin preferred to use Sunday afternoon. Miller surrendered the two decisive runs, and three scoreless innings tossed by Hjelle and Avila were moot in a 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

3/11/24 Latest round of cuts brings SF Giants' bullpen competition into clearer focus. The competition for the final spots in the San Francisco Giants' bullpen came into clearer focus Monday with the latest round of cuts. Seven pitchers, including lefty Erik Miller, were among the 11 players either optioned or reassigned to minor-league camp. Miller, 26, was described by manager Bob Melvin early in camp as “front and center” in the competition to join Taylor Rogers as the second southpaw in the bullpen but allowed two home runs in three appearances this spring. Melvin has expressed a preference to carry at least one more lefty in his bullpen, and by optioning Miller, that leaves 27-year-old Ethan Small, acquired from Milwaukee for cash last month, as the only remaining left-handed relief option on the 40-man roster.

11/14/23 Giants protect Erik Miller, Kai-Wei Teng, and Trevor McDonald. It turns out that my Rule 5 predictions for the San Francisco Giants were completely accurate. Ahead of Tuesday's deadline to add eligible prospects before December's draft, the Giants protected a trio of pitchers: right-handed starters Kai-Wei Teng and Trevor McDonald, and left-handed reliever Erik Miller. Miller and Teng were two of the four names I predicted the Giants to protect, and I think the case or them is crystal clear. Miller has a high-90s fastball, and prior to his protection, the team only had three lefties, two lefty relievers, and one healthy lefty reliever (Taylor Rogers) on the 40-man roster.
