2/03/25 Should Francisco Lindor Be Named the Mets' Captain?. It may be time for the New York Mets to bestow a prestigious title to their franchise cornerstone. Throughout their 63-year history, the Mets have only given four players the title of team captain; Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter shared the duty in the late-1980s, John Franco served as the clubhouse beacon from 2001 to 2004, and of course, David Wright held the title from 2013 to 2018. In the rest of the league, there are currently only three players serving as the captain of their club, those being Salvador Pérez of the Kansas City Royals, Marcus Semien of the Texas Rangers, and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.

1/28/25 Francisco Lindor needs to be Mets' next captain. Jon Heyman Francisco Lindor needs to be Mets' next captain By Jon Heyman Published Jan. 28, 2025, 8:12 p.m. ET Francisco Lindor #12 of the New York Mets reacts after he scores on his a solo home run against the Dodgers in the NLCS. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post My suggestion for the Mets won't engender any unnecessary drama, and it definitely shouldn't trigger even so much as a single boobird, unlike in the strangely mixed reaction at their fan festival Saturday at Citi Field. My recommendation for the team from Queens is so obvious and non-controversial it's hard to believe it hasn't happened yet: Make the great Francisco Lindor Mets captain. 4 Francisco Lindor speaks at a media availability

1/27/25 Juan Soto's signing excites Francisco Lindor and the Mets as owner Steve Cohen describes roller-coaster negotiations. Francisco Lindor's reaction to Juan Soto's mega-contract with the Mets was right in line with most people's. Indeed, Soto's record-setting 15-year, $765 million deal was a major talking point Saturday at the Amazin' Day fan festival at Citi Field, even though last-minute flight issues prevented Soto from leaving the Dominican Republic to attend the event himself. With the signing of Soto came renewed excitement around the Mets, who vastly exceeded expectations last season by making the playoffs as a wild-card team and advancing to Game 6 of the NLCS. Not with Soto, who hit .288 with a career-high 41 home runs, 109 RBI, 129 walks, a .419 on-base percentage and a .989 OPS last season with the crosstown Yankees.

1/07/25 Revisiting the Mets Trade for Francisco Lindor Four Years Later. When Steve Cohen bought the New York Mets nearly five years ago, he made it clear that he wanted to turn the franchise around and win its first World Series since 1986. Cohen's first step in doing so was executing arguably one of the Mets' biggest trades in team history by acquiring All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor from the Cleveland Guardians; this blockbuster deal also netted New York veteran starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco. Despite Lindor being one of the league's best shortstops and Carrasco also being a reliable veteran pitcher, New York gave up some solid talent of their own.
