5/05/24 Saturday's Game Report: White Sox 6, Cardinals 5 — 10 innings. The stage was set for Paul Goldschmidt to be the hero for the Cardinals on Saturday at Busch Stadium. A chance for Goldschmidt to find a moment of joy in what has been a frustrating start to the season, especially at home. Instead, he grounded into a force out, sending the game to the 10th inning. Former Cardinal Tommy Pham delivered an RBI single in the top of the inning to give the White Sox the lead – before the rain arrived.

4/28/24 Cardinals look to score early, often vs. Mets. St. Louis followed Friday's 4-2 victory, in which it took a four-run lead in the third inning, with a 7-4 win on Saturday by getting four runs in the opening frame. Paul Goldschmidt highlighted the big inning Saturday with a two-run double and also scored the sixth run for the Cardinals, who have scored 22 times while winning four of five games. Friday's quick start occurred after Alec Burleson hit a three-run homer in the second inning and Willson Contreras homered in the third. "That's huge," said St. Louis starter and Saturday's winner, Sonny Gray.

4/23/24 San Francisco Giants Could Be Prime Trade Candidate for Former MVP. San Francisco Giants Could Be Prime Trade Candidate for Former MVP The San Francisco Giants could be a perfect trade candidate for a former MVP winner. Author: Jon Conahan Apr 23, 2024 In this story: San Francisco Giants MLB Paul Goldschmidt The start of the season for the San Francisco Giants has been tough, but the team sits just two games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. Offensively, the Giants have been average to start the year. They're sitting among league average in nearly every major hitting category. If they want to be the team they're looking to be, that needs to improve. Factor in some of the slow starts from their top players, flipping the script

4/20/24 Cardinals' offensive struggles override a strong outing from Kyle Gibson and the relief corps. When those have-to-have-it situations come up for the Cardinals offense, too often they've come away empty. Former NL MVP Paul Goldschmidt had the bat in his hand with the bases loaded, the score tied with a chance to deliver a win for the Cardinals in the bottom of the ninth and erase the bad taste of their recent offensive struggles, but he hit a meek ground ball to shortstop. The Cardinals gave up a run courtesy of the automatic runner in extra innings and they couldn't muster an answer in the bottom half of the frame in a 2-1 extra-inning loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in the series opener in front of an announced crowd of 40,147 at Busch Stadium on Friday night. “First and foremost, I just take responsibility for how I've played,” Goldschmidt said.

4/18/24 At the heart of the Cardinals’ lineup, Paul Goldschmidt hasn’t been nearly good enough. The former National League MVP has to get better if the Cardinals’ slumping offense is to improve.

4/05/24 Cardinals rely on young core to complete rally, beat Marlins 8-5 in home opener at Busch. With nearly half a lineup worth of position players sidelined by various injuries or ailments, the Cardinals rallied in the seventh inning and earned a come-from-behind win of at least three runs in a home opener for the first time since 2005. A five-run seventh inning that started with critical at-bats by veteran cornerstones Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado turned pivotal thanks to the clutch hitting of rookie catcher Ivan Herrera, second baseman Nolan Gorman and designated hitter Alec Burleson as the Cardinals scratched their way to an 8-5 win over the Miami Marlins in front of an announced sellout crowd of 47,273 Thursday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

3/30/24 Cardinals outlast Dodgers to post first victory. Paul Goldschmidt delivered an RBI ground out in the 10th inning as the visiting St. Louis Cardinals capitalized on a gift five-run seventh inning and then held on for their first win of the season in a 6-5 victory Saturday over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Goldschmidt's one-out slow roller to shortstop scored automatic runner Victor Scott II as the Cardinals outlasted the Dodgers and a rare Dodger Stadium rain delay that lasted 35 minutes following the fourth inning.

3/05/24 St. Louis Cardinals beat Minnesota Twins 5-4 in spring training game. Despite the fact it had been well publicized, Paul Goldschmidt said he was unaware that the Cardinals had failed to hit a home run in their first 10 games this spring. All that proves, Goldschmidt said, is that it's spring training. “We want to play well in the spring but we all know spring training doesn't always predict the regular season so we will keep preparing and try to play well.”

3/04/24 Insider Predicts Cardinals Will Sign Superstar Slugger To Contract Extension. Insider Predicts Cardinals Will Sign Superstar Slugger To Contract Extension Cardinals fans should have some hope about one of the club's superstars Author: Patrick McAvoy Publish date: Mar 4, 2024 11:34 AM EST In this story: St. Louis Cardinals The St. Louis Cardinals will have a tough decision to make about one of the club's best players. Cardinals superstar Paul Goldschmidt had a down year in 2023 -- like much of the organization -- but is poised for a bounce-back 2024 campaign. The 2022 National League Most Valuable Player clubbed 25 home runs and drove in 80 runs last season even in a down year and should be able to contribute in a major way this season. Goldschmidt will be a free agent

3/01/24 Why the Cardinals feel they need to be deliberate with Steven Matz this spring. Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt swung at a curveball with late bite and drop. Cardinals starter Steven Matz was the left-hander standing on the mound, not in Roger Dean Stadium but on Field 1 in the club's training facility. While veteran pitcher and offseason free-agent addition Kyle Gibson started his first Grapefruit League game for the Cardinals in front of fans at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday, the Cardinals continued with a very methodical approach to Matz's spring training.

2/19/24 Cardinals hoping to bounce back from 2023 along with Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado. Paul Goldschmidt found a positive in the St. Louis Cardinals' worst season since 1990. “We had a longer offseason, had the opportunity to kind of look ahead, start planning a little bit," the seven-time All-Star first baseman said Monday as the Cardinals started full-squad workouts. St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol repeated the message he delivered when pitchers and catchers reported last week: forget 2023 and focus on this year. “These guys are super talented,” Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said.

1/17/24 Running Rookies Could Get St. Louis Cardinals Flying Again In 2024. St. Louis Cardinals fans hoping for a speedy recovery from a rare bad season may get their wish fulfilled quickly in 2024. Should they run their way into starting roles atop the batting order, sluggers Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado likely would get such a boatload of RBI that even the Cardinals' still shaky pitching staff could cruise. There's an opening at shortstop and Winn, 21, has the skills to fill it. Scott, 22, has a tougher road to gain an outfield berth despite an astounding 112 stolen bases in 155 minor-league games in 2023.

While the focus should remain on the present, their are some matters beyond the 2024 season that need to be addressed in due time, including the contract status of their most-recent MVP winner. Cardinals Mentioned As 'Dark Horse Suitors' For Superstar Pitcher In Possible Trade Could St. Louis make a blockbuster trade this offseason for a young ace? Author: Patrick McAvoy Publish date: Jan 9, 2024 2:37 PM EST In this story: St. Louis Cardinals Chicago White Sox The St. Louis Cardinals likely are done adding this offseason. St. Louis has added three starting pitchers and multiple relievers as well.
