2/07/25 | OMG! Mets haven't 'ruled out' reunion with key player of '24 team. The Mets might not be finished adding players to their roster. “The Mets apparently haven't completely ruled out a return for Jose Iglesias (aka Candelita),” Heyman wrote. 2/06/25 | Red Sox predicted to bring back veteran All-Star infielder for 2025. With just days until the start of their Spring Training camp at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida, the Boston Red Sox are still in conversations with multiple players and teams to improve their roster for the 2025 season and beyond. Boston entered the offseason with a few specific needs, including a right-handed bat to balance out their lineup and defensive help in their infield. While they've yet to make a significant move to help with either of those issues, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter predicted that the Red Sox will sign old friend Jose Iglesias to be their starting second baseman on Opening Day. "Veteran Jose Iglesias could be the perfect stopgap to give Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer a bit more time in the minors to begin the 2025 season," Reuter wrote. It is interesting to consider what the Mets might do about the tangibles and intangibles brought to the table with gusto by no-one-wanted-him Jose Iglesias. There were some questions about his lack of long ball power, his competent but not stellar defense and the fact he was into his mid 30s made him a bit of a mystery as to why no other teams saw him as a promising addition.
