4/21/24 When can SF Giants expect Alex Cobb back after latest setback?. Since undergoing surgery on the last day of October, Alex Cobb has had a date in his mind of when he wanted to be back pitching for the San Francisco Giants. Transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, the earliest Cobb will be eligible to join the Giants' rotation is May 27. “Now that they've got a date, they're going to map it out neatly,” said Cobb, who did everything in his power over the offseason to put him well ahead of schedule in his recovery from hip surgery, accelerating his timeline by two months or more and pitching simulated games by the end of spring training.

4/20/24 With Alex Cobb in question, SF Giants add starting pitcher in trade with Blue Jays. With Alex Cobb suffering a second setback in his recovery from offseason surgery, the Giants began shifting the eggs in their starting rotation to another basket. On Saturday, they struck a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays to acquire Mitch White and transferred Cobb to the 60-day injured list. White, 29, gives the Giants additional depth in their bullpen and rotation.

4/18/24 SF Giants Notebook: Alex Cobb suffers another setback in return to rotation. The Giants are awaiting a doctor's visit to learn more about Alex Cobb. Cobb was scheduled to visit with a team doctor on Thursday, when the club returned to San Francisco after a 3-3 road trip against the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays. The Giants aren't sure if Cobb will have to be shut down again. “He was going along so fast, it's just maybe a little hurdle he's going through right now with some soreness,” manager Bob Melvin said.

4/05/24 Alex Cobb suffers setback, Robbie Ray ramps up intensity and more SF Giants injury updates. Alex Cobb may be a medical marvel, but not even he is immune to bumps on his road to recovery. “I could have kept throwing through it, easily, but I wanted to make sure with us being so (advanced) in the rehab, where the team is at with the rotation, this would be a good time to knock out what's going on,” Cobb said Friday before the Giants' home opener. With Blake Snell set to debut Monday, the Giants have five healthy starters for the first time this season. When Cobb returns, he would add a sixth to a group that already counts Friday's home opener starter Jordan Hicks, Logan Webb, Kyle Harrison and Keaton Winn.

3/16/24 Alex Cobb's ambitious rehab: How SF Giants' starter hurried back from hip surgery. In the shadow of two buttes, Alex Cobb's four-month odyssey came full circle. It was here, at the Giants' Papago Park training complex, that Cobb arrived every morning at 9 a.m. Where every day he went through five to six hours of rehabilitation. With a week left before the Giants break camp, the 36-year-old right-hander is further along than anybody — perhaps except himself — could have envisioned when Dr. Marc Philippon took a knife to his left hip on Oct. 31 in Vail, Colorado.
