5/03/24 San Diego Sports Events to Watch this Month: May 2024. San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, May 10 | 6:40 p.m. | Petco Park Watch: Padres.TV Few things are as cathartic as chanting “Beat L.A.” with 45,000 of your closest friends, and the Padres will need all the help they can get from their fans when they face the Dodgers at Petco Park this month. The Pads' offense this season has been fine enough, with rookies like center fielder Jackson Merrill pulling their weight and established stars like third baseman Manny Machado turning in solid, if unspectacular seasons. But being fine enough at the plate doesn't cut it when the pitching is among the worst in baseball. Only seven teams have a worse earned run average. That combination has led

And who else in the system is bound to have an impact this year? These are all valid and intriguing questions. We have just the person to answer them. John Conniff from MadFriars covers San Diego's minor league system. He joins the OnFriar Podast to talk with NBC 7's Derek Togerson and Darnay Tripp about the impact some of the new guys are having. They also discuss why top prospect Ethan Salas is back in Single-A and

4/04/24 3 early-season moves Padres must make. If predictability is what you're looking for in your sports teams, you would have hated being a San Diego Padres fan the past few seasons. Essentially, whenever the Padres have looked to be in any position to zig, that's precisely when they've decided to zag, and now it's left them in an interesting spot. Off to a disappointing 4-5 start, there's more than enough time for San Diego to establish a foothold and start building a bridge to a Wild Card spot this season. Regardless of who it is they go after, it should be a top priority to relieve the pressure on Jackson Merrill to both master big-league pitching as a 20-year-old and play center field full-time for the first time in his life.
