10/09/24 Cubs predicted to land another Japanese star to join Shota Imanaga in rotation. In 2024, one of the major success stories for the Cubs was the debut of Japanese rookie Shota Imanaga. The 31-year-old left-hander posted a 15-3 record, 2.91 ERA, and 174 strikeouts, while being named the Cubs' lone representative at the All-Star Game. Imanaga proved to be a steal after signing a four-year, $53 million deal to come to Chicago. Is it possible that emboldened by their success in signing Imanaga, the Cubs will push to add another Japanese starter in 2025?

10/05/24 Chicago Cubs Should Look To Land Another International Star This Winter. The Chicago Cubs have succeeded in the international ranks over much of the past decade, most recently landing Shota Imanaga. Imanaga had an incredible first season for the Cubs, which was a very promising sign after some questions about how he'd pitch at the Big League level. Sticking with Japan, there will be another pitcher posted this winter who Imanaga might be able to help recruit to Chicago. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, soon to be 35-year-old Tomoyuki Sugano will be posted this offseason.

9/28/24 Cubs' Shoto Imanaga goes 15-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 29 starts as rookie. Shota Imanaga won't start for the Chicago Cubs against Cincinnati on Sunday and finished his rookie season 15-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 29 starts. The 31-year-old left-hander from Japan won't pitch because the “risk-reward benefit was not there," manager Craig Counsell said Saturday. Imanaga struck out 174 and walked 28 in 173 1/3 innings.
