1/25/25 | Yankees trade proposal would land $30 million catcher to fill big need. With only a few weeks left until the New York Yankees return to Tampa for the start of spring training, there are still some areas to address on the roster. While much of the discourse has surrounded the need to add depth to the infield and bullpen (lefties specifically), there's another underrated roster spot the Yankees may need to look into before the start of the season. Coming off a strong rookie campaign, Austin Wells is lined up to be the starting catcher, but the backup role behind him raises some red flags. In the deal that sent Jose Trevino to the Cincinnati Reds, the Yankees acquired Alex Jackson in return. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/new-york-yanke... |

10/19/24 | Austin Wells' first playoff homer followed chocolate cake, ice cream and another video sesssion with Anthony Volpe. With just two hits and 12 strikeouts over his first 28 postseason plate appearances, Austin Wells found himself searching for answers on Thursday night. This time, the duo feasted on chocolate cake and ice cream while addressing Wells' concern that he was being “exposed,” particularly at the top of the zone. As the two friends dined on desserts, they identified “some little things that might have helped,” Wells told the Daily News after the Yankees beat the Guardians, 8-6, in Game 4 of the ALCS on Friday. The adjustments certainly seemed to make a difference, as the catcher crushed the first home run of his postseason career when he took Cleveland starter Gavin Williams 407 feet to center in the second inning.
