5/01/24 Johan Rojas continues to make his case as an everyday MLB starter. Were you wrong about Johan Rojas? A game winning two-run homerun capped off a heck of a month for 23 year old Johan Rojas, who is beginning to make the case that he's an everyday starter in Major League Baseball. Well, placed in a situation manager Rob Thomson would typically pinch-hit for him, Rojas won the Phillies their league leading 20th game of the season on Tuesday night, and over the past 18 games is hitting .312. For the season, Rojas is now hitting a respectable .241 with a .300 on-base percentage.

5/01/24 Rojas and Castellanos homer in the 9th, leading the Phillies to a 7-5 comeback win over the Angels.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Johan Rojas hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the ninth inning moments after Nick Castellanos' tying shot, sending the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.

Trailing 5-4 with one out and nobody on base in the ninth, the Phillies avoided only their second back-to-back losses since March with three extra-base hits on five pitches from Angels closer Carlos Estévez (0-1), who blew his second save of the season in spectacular fashion.

After Castellanos hit a solo shot to right for only his second homer of a rough year, Bryson Stott doubled and scored on Rojas' first homer of the season.

“Huge, man, just to be able to come through, because I feel like there’s so many spots this season where I haven’t,” said Castellanos, who had three hits to end his 3-for-27 skid over his past seven games. “So just to be able to pick them up, it feels great.”

Luis Rengifo hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning for the Angels, who began another chapter of life without Mike Trout with an appropriately gut-wrenching defeat. Los Angeles has lost 10 of 12.

Before the game, the Angels announced Trout will undergo surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his left knee. The three-time AL MVP outfielder is out indefinitely with a major injury for the fourth consecutive season, and the surprising news had Trout holding back tears as he discussed it before the game.

Rengifo had three hits, Zach Neto also homered and Mickey Moniak had an RBI single for the Angels.

“We squandered some opportunities early in the game, and then we came to life right there,” Angels manager Ron Washington said. “(Rengifo) got us a three-run homer, put us ahead. We got to the position we wanted to be in. Just needed to get two more outs. We didn’t get...

4/16/24 Philadelphia Phillies face Rockies after Monday night thriller, Rojas good to go, Marsh in against lefty. The concerns regarding Johan Rojas' injury were short-lived. Rob Thomson has Rojas in the Philadelphia Phillies lineup on Tuesday, batting ninth, less than 24 hours after Rojas appeared to suffer an injury during the middle of the celebration of Cristian Pache's walk-off single in Monday night's victory. Rojas was seen with a noticeable limp during the celebration on Monday but was walking around just fine in the clubhouse and in the dugout Tuesday. The Phillies center fielder is good to go.

4/14/24 Gold Glove CF Deemed 'Solution' to Phillies Outfield Struggles. Gold Glove CF Deemed 'Solution' to Phillies Outfield Struggles A Gold Glove outfielder is viewed as a possible solution for the Philadelphia Phillies. Author: Jon Conahan Apr 14, 2024 In this story: Phillies Philadelphia Phillies Pittsburgh Pirates Michael A. Taylor The Philadelphia Phillies look to be turning things around, winning three out of their last four games. Despite winning games, there's still a major concern in center field with Johan Rojas struggling the way he has offensively. Rojas, 23 years old, is off to a brutal start, slashing .161/.235/.194. Coming into the season, he was expected to struggle on that side of the ball. However, his first 35 plate appearances have gone as poorly

4/13/24 Phillies Notebook: Johan Rojas isn't only outfielder with April dry spell at plate. Johan Rojas didn't start in centerfield for the second straight game Friday night at Citizens Bank Park, but hey, don't get too excited. “He'll be back in there tomorrow,” manager Rob Thomson predicted. What perhaps was an easier prediction coming out of spring training is the way Rojas' first two weeks of the season have gone. “Want him to sit and watch for a bit,” Thomson said.

4/12/24 Phillies debut new City Connect jerseys against Pirates, line up adjustments, Rojas benched second straight game. Johan Rojas has turned a slight corner on his season, yet remained out of the Philadelphia Phillies lineup for the second consecutive game. Rob Thomson rolled out the same lineup before Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, which has Brandon Marsh in center field, Whit Merrifield in left field, and Rojas on the bench. "I want to make sure we get [Brandon] Marsh and [Bryson] Stott at bats against lefties," Thomson said in the Phillies dugout before Friday's game.

4/09/24 A struggling Johan Rojas says he's been 'a little shy' at the plate. He broke out against the Cardinals.. As Johan Rojas went to the plate in the third inning Monday night, a number stared back from the scoreboard at Busch Stadium. “You're a young guy in the big leagues and you've got the numbers he's got,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said before the game, “it's going to weigh on you to a certain degree.” Imagine how it must have felt, then, for Rojas to scorch a belt-high slider from Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas for a leadoff double to left field.

4/08/24 It's time for the Phillies to make the call on Johan Rojas. They are at a competitive disadvantage.. None of what you are about to read is meant to suggest that Johan Rojas is to blame for the Phillies' latest lackluster start. Rojas may be 1-for-22 at the plate, but he also has minor league options. The Phillies are 4-5. The Phillies were down 3-1 with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning.

3/31/24 Johan Rojas hustles Phillies to their first win of the season. Who knows if Johan Rojas is ever going to consistently hit big league pitching? Rojas fueled a winning, two-out rally in the seventh inning Sunday afternoon when he hustled down the first-base line to avoid what probably would have been an inning-ending double play against every other Phillies batter. The Phillies went on to score three runs in the seventh en route to a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves before 44,215 fans at Citizens Bank Park.

3/29/24 The Phillies have a big question with Johan Rojas. They may have to get creative to answer it.. Which brings us, of course, to the 2024 Phillies and Johan Rojas. Rojas is probably going to be in the Phillies' opening-day lineup Friday against the Braves, and he'll be given every opportunity to win the everyday job in center field. Everyone knows that Rojas is a wonderful defensive outfielder, that his speed and ability to track down fly balls should help the Phillies immeasurably in this latest era of Major League Baseball, when managers can no longer shift their outfielders to the precise place where opposing batters are most likely to hit the ball.

3/28/24 Phillies Notebook: Outfield depth has Rob Thomson feeling confident. The Phillies have enough depth, so they've informed weak-hitting outfielder Johan Rojas not to take it personally if they pinch-hit for him. The Phillies were conflicted about keeping the defensive star around after he batted .170 in spring training. “I've talked to Johan about it and I've talked to a few people about it,” Phil manager Rob Thomson said Thursday.

3/26/24 Johan Rojas is the Phillies' Opening Day center fielder. Can he hit enough to stay there?. Johan Rojas will be standing in center field when Zack Wheeler throws the first pitch of the Phillies' season. “The main question I keep asking everybody is, 'What's best for him?'” President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski said in a press conference to wrap up spring training. Rojas bypassed Triple-A and joined the Phillies in July after 76 games at Double-A Reading after a spate of injures left them in need of an outfielder.
