| 4/10/24 | Red Sox Pitcher Undergoes Season-Ending Tommy John Surgery. It was trending this way, but it's now official for Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Murphy. The lefty reliever will be sidelined for the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. The surgery took place at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington, Texas. FORT MYERS, Fla. — Lefty Chris Murphy , who was competing for a spot on the Red Sox ' Opening Day roster, has been shut down and will undergo an MRI on his elbow Monday. “Not recovering well from the last one in the elbow area,” manager Alex Cora said Monday at JetBlue Park. “So we'll see what's going on there. Obviously worry of course. But we'll have more probably mostly likely tomorrow morning.” The 25-year-old made his major league debut last season.
