5/12/24 'Meticulous' Mets ace's status is suddenly big mystery — even though he's healthy. By all accounts, Mets ace Kodai Senga is healthy. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza did his best to try to explain the Senga mystery to reporters at Citi Field on Sunday. “He's going to continue to work with his mechanics,” Mendoza said.

5/12/24 Mets appear to have paused Kodai Senga's rehab progress. The Mets are not categorizing Kodai Senga's situation as a setback, but the rehabbing ace's progress appears to have been paused. Senga built up to facing hitters in a live batting-practice setting, first on April 29 and again last Sunday, which often is the last step before a pitcher begins a rehab assignment . A third live BP or a stint in the minor leagues is not yet scheduled, though, manager Carlos Mendoza said, because Senga is still working through mechanical issues. Kodai Senga Jason Szenes for the New York Post Senga threw a bullpen session Friday and was set to play catch Saturday, after which Mendoza said the Mets would figure out the next step. “I wouldn't be surprised if he's got

5/05/24 Mets mulling Kodai Senga rehab assignment as he gets closer to a return: 'Everything is moving in the right direction'. Kodai Senga could be one step closer to making his long-awaited season debut, with the potential next step being a big one. The injured Mets ace threw 32 pitches in live batting practice Saturday, facing hitters for the third time. The next step might be a rehab assignment with a minor league affiliate. “Now we'll see how he responds the next few days so we can make a decision whether he throws on another live BP or we put him through a rehab assignment,” manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday at Tropicana Field.

5/01/24 Mets notes: Latest on Kodai Senga, Tyrone Taylor gets lead-off nod, Carlos Mendoza's rest philosophy. New York Mets ace Kodai Senga is scheduled to throw his second live batting practice session on Saturday, manager Carlos Mendoza divulged on Wednesday before his club took on the Chicago Cubs. Senga faced hitters in a live setting on Monday for the first time since suffering a strained shoulder during spring training that landed him on the injured list. The 31-year-old right-hander faced 21 batters on Monday and is expected to get “two ups,” on Saturday, per Mendoza. With Brandon Nimmo getting a scheduled day off on Wednesday, fourth outfielder Tyrone Taylor was given the opportunity to bat lead-off by Mendoza.

4/19/24 Mets All-Star Duo Mentioned As Trade Candidates Despite Red-Hot Start. Mets All-Star Duo Mentioned As Trade Candidates Despite Red-Hot Start Could the Mets actually end up trading two All-Stars away? Author: Patrick McAvoy Apr 19, 2024 In this story: New York Mets MLB News The New York Mets had a rough first week of the 2024 season but have been great ever since. New York was 0-5 to kick off the season but are 10-3 over the last 13 games. The Mets have had success despite not being at full strength. New York's starting rotation currently is missing ace Kodai Senga and the club's offense hasn't quite clicked yet. While this is the case, the Mets still have been impressive and should get even better soon. At this point, the Mets seem more likely to be buyers ahead

4/16/24 Mets' rotation continues to come up big without ace Kodai Senga. Among the pleasant surprises of the Mets' recently improved play has been the performance of their beaten-up starting rotation, which is without Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill. The staff entered Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Pirates with a 3.48 ERA that topped the National League and was sixth in the majors, and also ranked fifth in the majors in strikeouts per nine innings. And their rotation's ERA of 3.63 ERA was seventh overall, before Jose Quintana limited Pittsburgh to one run across five innings Tuesday. Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner isn't overly interested in those numbers. Instead, he's looking at the staff's overall performance. Jose Quintana kept the Mets in the game against the Pirates.

4/03/24 Where's Mets' Kodai Senga in pitching progression?. On Monday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza informed media members that Senga would be throwing for the second consecutive day, something he hasn't done since injuring his shoulder in the first week of camp in February. Given the status of the starting rotation after Tylor Megill landed on the IL on Monday, reporters were curious about how Senga felt after throwing on back-to-back days. “There's no set benchmark or threshold that needs to be hit,” Senga said through interpreter Hiro Fujiwara.

4/01/24 Mets ace Kodai Senga takes step forward while rehabbing shoulder injury. New York Mets ace Kodai Senga threw on back-to-back days — the second leg coming on Monday — for the first time as he recovers from a strained shoulder suffered during spring training, Carlos Mendoza said. The 31-year-old right-hander began throwing last week on alternating days from flat ground before doing so on consecutive days Sunday and Monday. “He's over that every-other-day throwing progression,” Mendoza said. Senga was placed on the injured list in late February and had been shut down from throwing for approximately one month, providing a sizable blow to the Mets well before their 2024 season began.

3/31/24 Mets' Tylor Megill gets MRI for 'tender' shoulder after exiting start early. Already without Kodai Senga in the rotation because of a shoulder injury, the Mets could now be without Tylor Megill, who left his start after four innings on Sunday against the Brewers because he “was a little bit tender in his shoulder area,” according to bench coach John Gibbons, who was filling in for suspended manager Carlos Mendoza in a 4-1 loss at Citi Field . Megill underwent an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury. He struggled with his command, walking three and hitting a batter and was removed after 78 pitches. Gibbons said Megill would have remained in the game if he hadn't mentioned the injury. 3 Tylor Megill, pictured earlier during his start, was removed after 78 pitches.

3/28/24 It's Jose Quintana show on Opening Day for Kodai Senga-less Mets. Thanks to Kodai Senga's injured shoulder, Jose Quintana will take the mound for the Mets on Friday. It will be Quintana's second Opening Day start of his career and first since 2017, when he was with the White Sox. That's when Quintana was in the prime of his career, pitching 200 innings a year and coming off his lone All-Star appearance. 3 Jose Quintana will be starting for the Mets on Opening Day. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST The Mets can't expect those results from Quintana this season , now that he's 35, with a lot more innings on his left arm, but he's certainly looking for a better year than his first as a Met, when he missed the first half of the season with fractured ribs. Quintana said

3/27/24 Mets notes: Kodai Senga throws at Citi Field, Carlos Mendoza lays out JD Martinez plan ahead of Opening Day 2024. Taking part in the Mets' pre-Opening-Day workout at Citi Field on Wednesday was ace pitcher Kodai Senga, who had a catch in the outfield as he ramps up his throwing program. The 31-year-old right-hander, coming off a highly successful rookie season in North America that featured 202 strikeouts, a 2.98 ERA, and a second-place finish in the NL Rookie of the Year voting, was sidelined early in spring training with a strained shoulder. “Right now, he's on an every-other-day schedule,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. At this rate of progression, he is expected to make his 2024 season debut sometime in May where he will resume his role as staff ace.
