3/17/25 Washington Nationals Rising Pitching Prospect Preparing for Key Outing. The Washington Nationals enter the final week of spring training trying to flesh out the remaining roles on their team. The Nationals didn't make flashy moves in the offseason and managed to luck into bringing back last year's closer, Kyle Finnegan, on a cheaper deal after releasing him suddenly in November. Entering this spring training, the goal for starting pitcher Brad Lord was to get him some more work with the Major League team before sending him back to the minor leagues. Lord threw a spotless inning of relief in Monday's spring training game loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

3/15/25 Could Star Closer's Glaring Flaw Haunt Washington Nationals This Season?. The Washington Nationals surprised a lot of people early in the MLB offseason when they decided to non-tender their closer Kyle Finnegan. Finnegan recorded a career-high 38 saves, earning his first All-Star appearance. Projected to earn $8.6 million in arbitration, the Nationals approached their closer about working out a deal prior to the hearing. It ended up being the right move, as Finnegan was met with a surprisingly cold market.

3/09/25 Washington Nationals Lauded by Former MLB Executive for Bullpen Strategy. Early in the MLB offseason, the Washington Nationals made a decision that surprised a lot of people. Despite needing some help with their bullpen, they decided to non-tender their closer, Kyle Finnegan. The decision made him an free agent instantly. It certainly wasn't from a lack of trying to get a deal done, as the two sides did negotiate prior to arbitration.

3/09/25 Washington Nationals All-Star Reliever Tracking Toward Opening Day Roster. It's been roughly 10 days since the Washington Nationals re-signed last year's All-Star closer, Kyle Finnegan. On Friday, the right-hander crossed the next milestone off the list by throwing to hitters in live batting practice for the first time. “You're more thinking about yourself and how your body's moving and if the pitches are doing what you want them to do,” Finnegan said. MLB.com reported that the plan is for Finnegan to be ready to contribute for opening day.
