3/16/21 Which Cardinals Pitcher Will Break Out in 2021. Finally, with Kwang-Hyun Kim and Miles Mikolas dealing with some soreness, the Cardinals may need pitchers like John Gant, Daniel Ponce de Leon, and Jake Woodford to step up. 9/19/20 Cardinals vs. Pirates prediction: Under is smart play here. Kwang-hyun Kim has made five starts for St. Louis Cardinals in his first season in MLB after beginning his career in the Korean Baseball Organization, and in those starts has allowed just two runs, one of which was earned. Kim already has faced Saturday’s foe, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and gave up one unearned run in six innings. That’s par for the course for Pittsburgh, as the team entered this series having scored four runs or fewer in 13 of its first 17 games in September and entered Friday ran...

8/17/20 The challenges of the pitching staff in the Cubs series. It could be a bullpen game with a start by Alzolay. Think the Woodford start on Saturday, where even if he pitches well, he will only go a few innings. Against Hendricks will be the first MLB start of Kwang-Hyun Kim, and he’ll certainly have a tough opponent to start his MLB starting pitching career.

7/25/20 Kwang-Hyun Kim and other relievers fantasy owners should take look at. We’ll start in St. Louis, where Kwang-Hyun Kim will get the first crack at the ninth inning after Carlos Martinez, who collected 24 saves in 27 chances in 2019, rejoined the rotation. Kim was an effective starter in the Korean League, going 136-77 with 3.27 ERA and 1.328 WHIP over 12 seasons. Despite not being a huge strikeout pitcher (7.8 strikeouts per nine in Korea), the 31-year-old was impressive in spring training 1.0, pitching eight shutout innings with 11 strikeouts and only one walk.

7/20/20 Baseball Daily Dose: Astros, Cards Shuffle Closer Deck. On the National League side, the Cardinals threw everyone a proverbial curveball when manager Mike Shildt hinted that Carlos Martinez's occupation of a starting spot would push newcomer Kwang-Hyun Kim out of the rotation -- and likely into the closer role. Cardinals manager John Mozeliak had previously mentioned reliever Ryan Helsley by name when talking about the closer gig, and Giovanny Gallegos was arguably the Cardinals' best high-leverage reliever last year.
