The Chicago Cubs have to know who's going to be on their Opening Day roster earlier than every team in Major League Baseball except the Los Angeles Dodgers. After undergoing flexor tendon surgery earlier this offseason, it's unknown if Chicago Cubs infielder Nico Hoerner will be ready for Opening Day. 1/11/25 | Cubs blockbuster trade idea swaps Nico Hoerner for Padres 3-time All-Star. The trade rumors around Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner seem to have quieted down from earlier this offseason. Hoerner, a 27-year-old Gold Glove second baseman, was extended through the 2026 season by the Cubs a couple years ago.
