9/18/24 | Diamondbacks bullpen check-in: A.J. Puk exactly what club needed. “Where would the Arizona Diamondbacks be without A.J. Puk?” is a question that by the day becomes more relevant. The D-backs' bullpen entered Wednesday with the highest ERA in baseball during September at a whopping 7.53, a significant difference than the results it saw down the stretch last year. Puk, meanwhile, has been arguably the most dominant reliever in MLB since joining Arizona from the Miami Marlins with a ridiculous 42% strikeout rate (fourth in MLB). 8/26/24 | A.J. Puk's Desert Dominance Is Just What the D-backs Needed. The Arizona Diamondbacks had a busy Trade Deadline, with no move having a bigger impact than the team's acquisition of A.J. Puk. Since his acquisition from the Miami Marlins, he has been nothing short of a Godsend for the D-backs bullpen, and he has done it while flying largely under the radar. D-backs GM Mike Hazen made it clear at the Deadline that pieces for the bullpen were the team's #1 priority. What Hazen and the rest of the front office ended up with was arguably the best reliever who was moved before the calendar flipped to August. 7/28/24 | White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet among the coveted players ahead of MLB's trade deadline. There are very few teams that look invincible. There aren't many teams that are flat-out awful. Which brings us to Tuesday's trade deadline. The D-backs added left-hander A.J. Puk, the Mariners grabbed outfielder Randy Arozarena, the Yankees acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr. and the Orioles now have right-hander Zach Eflin. 7/27/24 | Diamondbacks DFA Thyago Vieira to make room for A.J. Puk. New Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher A.J. Puk joined the team on Saturday before a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. To make room on the active roster, Arizona designated for assignment Thyago Vieira. The D-backs had designated left-hander Joe Jacques for assignment on Thursday to create a 40-man roster spot. The D-backs claimed Vieira from the Baltimore Orioles on June 6, and he has been a lower leverage reliever in the bullpen since. Source: https://arizonasports.com/story/3552170/arizona-di... |
