6/21/25 Diamondbacks have rarely faced this many season-ending injuries. The Arizona Diamondbacks don't want to use injuries as an excuse, but the scope has been impossible to ignore. Manager Torey Lovullo broke the news on Friday that reliever A.J. Puk underwent season-ending elbow surgery, while catcher Gabriel Moreno's imaging revealed a fractured pointer finger on his throwing hand. In the minor leagues, catcher Adrian Del Castillo went down with lower back discomfort, while left-handed pitcher Tommy Henry will also need Tommy John surgery. The Diamondbacks now have six players on the 40-man roster who are out with Tommy John surgeries or revisions: Puk, Henry, Justin Martinez, Corbin Burnes, Jordan Montgomery and Blake Walston.

6/13/25 Diamondbacks' A.J. Puk pulled back from throwing program. Arizona Diamondbacks reliever A.J. Puk's road to recovery has been stalled, as the team pulled him back from his throwing program to see a specialist for his left elbow injury, manager Torey Lovullo said on Friday. Puk will visit orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in person in Los Angeles after feeling some discomfort while throwing on flat ground. The D-backs placed Puk on the 15-day injured list back on April 19 with left elbow inflammation and moved him to the 60-day IL on May 1.

5/19/25 Diamondbacks notes: A.J. Puk begins throwing program. Arizona Diamondbacks reliever A.J. Puk began his throwing program out to 60 feet on Monday, starting a progression to get back from the injured list. Puk was placed on the 15-day IL with left elbow inflammation retroactive to April 18 and moved to the 60-day IL on May 1. “ I'm sure the ball felt foreign in his hand,” manager Torey Lovullo said pregame on Monday at Dodger Stadium.

5/09/25 Torey Lovullo Discusses D-backs Health Updates, Facing Dodgers. Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo provided an update on the health of some important relievers on Friday in his pregame press conference, and discussed the challenge of facing the Los Angeles Dodgers in a four-game set. Left-hander A.J. Puk (left flexor strain, 60-day IL) is still doing plyometric exercises, but is asymptomatic and feels no pain. Puk has yet to begin his official throwing program, but has been throwing plyo balls against a wall, along with other motions. Lovullo said Puk is still "building up" toward picking up a baseball, and the southpaw will "probably" do so next week.

5/02/25 Shelby Miller's redemption arc leads to closer opportunity. Miller had just allowed five runs in one inning during his fourth start after Tommy John surgery. Instead, the Diamondbacks placed him on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. In our latest poll question, one that drew over 700 responses by 1 p.m. on Friday, Miller was the overwhelming favorite (68%) for who should receive the bulk of Arizona's save opportunities with A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez on the IL.
