7/16/23 Gorman, Burleson lead Cardinals over Nationals 9-6 for doubleheader split. The Cardinals had to wait a day to get the second half of the season started after rain interrupted their game against the Nationals in the third inning on Friday night. After losing 7-5 in 10 innings in the completion of the suspended game on Saturday, the Cardinals used a season-high 17-hit attack to post a 9-6 win over the Nationals in the night game at Busch Stadium. The first game was marred by the Cardinals' first three-error inning since 2017 as they allowed a total of four unearned runs. The second game offered some reminders of the first half as well with the Cardinals blowing a 4-0 lead before getting five consecutive hits with two outs to score three runs in the fifth, then adding two insurance runs that allowed them to hold off the Nationals, who scored twice in the ninth off Genesis Cabrera.

6/07/23 Cardinals, Genesis Cabrera get walked off in a loss to the Rangers after a late rally. Cardinals reliever Genesis Cabrera got the first batter of the ninth inning to ground out, but he did not record another out in the inning as the Texas Rangers rallied for their second walk-off win of the season. The Cardinals came back to tie the score in the eighth inning but lost their fourth in a row, 4-3, in the series opener at Globe Life Field on Monday night. After being swept in a three-game weekend series in Pittsburgh, the Cardinals now have lost six of their last seven games and have the National League's worst record, 25-36. Cabrera gave up a walk to Marcus Semien, a bloop single to Corey Seager just over the infield that third baseman Nolan Arenado couldn't catch then a single on the ground to left field by Nathaniel Lowe that drove in the winning run.

4/28/23 With rising velocity, can lefty Genesis Cabrera get his groove back? Cardinals Extra. On road trip, reliever has struck out seven of the 16 batters he's faced in four scoreless appearances. With his fastball hopping, his "confidence is through the roof."

4/08/23 First Pitch: Genesis Cabrera recalled from AAA as Packy Naughton goes to IL. Looking to break a four game losing streak, the St. Louis Cardinals will face an opponent that they historically have faired very well against.

2/25/23 Spring training: Nationals 3, Cardinals 2. The battle to see who will be their lefthanded relievers should be one of the most spirited in the Cardinals' camp this spring, and it got off to a competitive start on opening day. Three of the candidates – Genesis Cabrera, Packy Naughton and Zack Thompson – all worked a scoreless inning, all in 12 pitches or less. Cabrera allowed the only hit, but also had the most velocity, reaching 96 miles per hour on the radar gun.

2/18/23 Cardinals complete sweep in arbitration hearings, win vs. lefty Genesis Cabrera. Once a team that far preferred to avoid an arbitration hearing, even if it meant searching for an agreement in the days and hours leading into that hearing, the Cardinals shift to a file-trial team has been successful. An arbiter ruled Saturday in favor of the Cardinals after hearing arguments from lefty Genesis Cabrera and the club this past week. Cabrera will receive a salary of $950,000 for the coming season vs. the $1.15 million he had requested from the club. Including a victory, if that's the word, against closer Ryan Helsley earlier in the week, the Cardinals went 2-for-2 in arbitration hearings this year.

2/17/23 Closer Ryan Helsley loses arbitration hearing to Cardinals; Genesis Cabrera braced for his. Lefty reliever Genesis Cabrera, who threw a bullpen for coaches Thursday morning, will face members of the front office Friday in what can become an adversarial arbitration hearing. Cabrera planned to travel Thursday night to the Tampa, Florida, area to make his argument in front of an arbiter and hear the Cardinals argue against his requested salary. All-Star closer Ryan Helsley was the only other Cardinal to go through the arbitration process this season, and he had his hearing Wednesday. The arbiter ruled in favor of the Cardinals, the Post-Dispatch and other outlets reported Thursday night.

10/17/22 John Middleton Grateful Bryce Harper's Bad Break Didn't Derail Phillies' Season. Watching Harper get hit by Snell on June 25 brought Middleton back 14 months, to when Harper was hit in the face by a 96 mph fastball from lefty Genesis Cabrera in St. Louis. Middleton immediately feared that Snell's pitch had broken something in Harper's hand -- "Just Bryce's reaction and the speed of the pitch made you think that," he said -- but he was relieved that Harper wasn't hit in the face like he had been a year earlier in St. Louis. "That night," Middleton said.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals reliever Genesis Cabrera slammed the ball to the ground in frustration when he was removed from the game Friday night, prompting a stern response from manager Oliver Marmol moments before St. Louis closed out a 7-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Cabrera was pulled after giving up consecutive hits to start the ninth inning. He fired the ball down as Marmol approached the mound, leading the rookie skipper to grab Cabrera and get right in his face.

“Your ego can’t get in the way of being a professional,” Marmol said. “I’ve known him a long time. He’ll be just fine. We have a good, veteran group that will address it. The kid’s a competitor, he wants to be in there. You can’t fault him for that.”

Veteran slugger Albert Pujols spoke to Cabrera as the pitcher sat on the bench. Standing in front of him, Pujols tapped Cabrera twice on the top of his cap before walking away.

All-Star reliever Ryan Helsley earned his eighth save when he got Brandon Drury to fly out to deep center field with the bases loaded.

Nolan Gorman hit a tiebreaking homer for the Cardinals, and Brendan Donovan drove in three runs. St. Louis stopped its two-game skid and improved to 4-4 on a 10-game homestand, its longest of the season.

Cincinnati had won six of seven and was coming off back-to-back series wins for the first time this season. The last-place Reds swept Tampa Bay at home and took two of three on the road from the major league-leading New York Yankees.

Andre Pallante (3-4) allowed three runs and six hits over five innings for his first win since June 10. He struck out five and walked three.

Gorman broke a 3-all tie with a drive off fellow rookie Hunter Greene (3-2) leading off the fourth inning. He was 2 of 24 over his previous eight-plus games before unloading...
