4/22/24 Nationals Notebook: Celebrating the past while pointing towards the future. Saturday's finish was fitting: on the weekend where the Washington Nationals celebrated the fifth anniversary of their World Series triumph (even handing out replica rings), they took two of three from Houston, jumpstarting their series win with a ninth-inning comeback and extra-inning victory Saturday. “I think there's momentum anytime you win games, especially to take two out of three in LA (against the Dodgers) and then two out of three at home against the Astros,” infielder Nick Senzel (fresh off hitting his first homer of the season) said.

3/30/24 Nationals put 3B Senzel on IL, call up Lipscomb. The Washington Nationals placed third baseman Nick Senzel on the 10-day injured list Saturday and selected the contract of infielder Trey Lipscomb. The move is retroactive to Wednesday for Senzel, who is nursing a fractured right thumb. Senzel, 28, sustained the injury while fielding grounders during batting practice prior to Thursday's season-opening game against the host Cincinnati Reds. It was a cruel break for Senzel, who was returning to Cincinnati to face his former team after spending five seasons with the Reds.

3/29/24 Nationals' Nick Senzel fractured thumb in pre-Opening Day warmups. The Washington Nationals are looking to avoid a fourth straight last-place finish in the NL East, but things went awry even before the first pitch of the season. Third basemen Nick Senzel was a late scratch for the Nats' Opening Day lineup against the Cincinnati Reds after he fractured his thumb while fielding a ground ball during warmups prior to the game. “The blow right before our game today really stung,” manager Dave Martinez said following the Nationals 8-2 loss. “That was kind of a bad situation. He took a bad hop during BP.” It is unclear how much time Senzel will miss Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports Ildemaro Vargas replaced Senzel at third as he spent Opening Day introductions at Great American

1/09/24 Washington Nationals news & notes: Quick hits and leftover bits. Nick Senzel was the No. 2 pick in 2016's MLB Draft, with Cincinnati Reds selecting the third baseman out of the University of Tennessee a pick after the Philadelphia Phillies drafted Mickey Moniak and 25 picks before the Washington Nationals took Carter Kieboom at No. 28. Fans in the nation's capital are familiar with Kieboom's struggles at the major league level, and Senzel too has some experience with the difficulty of living up to the sort of hype which comes with being a high draft pick and highly-regarded prospect. A variety of injuries limited Senzel to 169 games total between 2020-22, 110 of the games in 2022, and he played 104 again in 2023 before the Reds non-tendered the infielder, making him a free agent.

12/14/23 Washington Nationals news & notes: Nick Senzel talks joining Nats, playing third every day + more.... For 28-year-old Nick Senzel, who moved between the infield and outfield for the Cincinnati Reds in the first five seasons of his major league career, playing predominantly center field, an opportunity to return to his original spot at third base was a major factor in his decision to sign a 1-year/$2M free agent deal with the Washington Nationals this week. Drafted by the Reds as a third baseman out of the University of Tennessee with the No. 2 overall pick in 2016, Senzel played the majority of his games at third base last year for the first time in the majors. Senzel was non-tendered this winter, after putting up a .236/.297/.399 line and career-high 13 home runs in 104 games and 330 plate appearances what ended up a -0.4 fWAR season with the Reds. “Washington was kind of on my radar right after I got non-tendered by Cincinnati,” he told reporters in a Zoom call after his signing was officially announced.

11/17/23 Cincinnati Reds cut ties with former top prosepct. The once-promising Cincinnati Reds career of Nick Senzel finally rolled to its long-anticipated end when the team's former No. 2 overall draft pick was non-tendered at Friday's deadline for committing to 2024 contracts for arbitration-eligible players, according to our media partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Reds were expected to announce decisions on all eight arbitration-eligible players by Friday's 8 p.m. deadline. Senzel said he expected to be traded at the Aug. 1 trade deadline this season and after trade talks gained little traction said afterward he would have welcomed a change of scenery, given steep decreases in playing time. Senzel, who was optioned to Triple-A Louisville briefly in August, made $1.95 million this season.

11/13/23 Red Reposter - Prospect rankings, trade targets, & more!. Bit of a slow weekend for news around the Cincinnati Reds. The good folks at MLB Trade Rumors provided a list of players who were firmly on the bubble for being tendered at the end of October, and it's a list that could well have some hidden gems. Nick Senzel features prominently from the Reds perspective, his estimated ~$3 million salary a drop in the bucket to most clubs but deemed perhaps too pricey for what he provides to the Reds. Derek Law is included ($1.4 million), too.
