2/13/23 Mets to be well-represented at WBC, Yankees sending just four big leaguers. The World Baseball Classic doesn't officially kick off until March 8, but the final rosters for each of the 20 competing nations were released on Thursday. Members of the Mets' and Yankees' organizations will represent nine different countries at the upcoming tournament, which is being held for the first time since 2017. The Mets have a whopping ten members of their projected Opening Day roster who will be participating in the WBC, meaning they will miss a healthy chunk of the Mets' spring training games. Five players from their minor league system (Camrin Opp, Great Britain; Claudio Scotti, Italy; Jonathan Arauz and Humberto Mejia, Panama; Dominic Hamel, Puerto Rico) will be part of the festivities as well.

9/07/21 Does One Player Hold the Key to the Red Sox' Playoff Fortunes?. Tomase: Kike Hernandez's Red Sox return can't come soon enough originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston With the door to the COVID penalty box finally swinging open, the Red Sox can envision a stretch run manned by their best players and not Triple-A filler and street free agents. Those Triple-A filler and street free agents have kept the club afloat, mind you, and if the Sox make the playoffs, they'll have Jonathan Arauz and Jack Lopez in part to thank.

Boston’s Jonathan Arauz arrived as backup at Progressive Field, hours before Friday’s game against the Cleveland Indians while the Red Sox dealt with a COVID-19 outbreak. But Arauz left the yard in the eighth inning with a go-ahead three-run home run against Indians reliever James Karinchak that handed Cleveland a 4-3 defeat as Boston scored its 10th comeback victory when trailing after the seventh inning this season.

8/14/20 Red Sox will give Jonathan Arauz chance to prove he belongs. That Jonathan Arauz started at second base against the Yankees on Friday night was a nod of recognition to the 22-year-old rookie from Panama that his improvement in recent weeks hasn’t gone unnoticed by the coaching staff. It also was an acknowledgement that the Red Sox understand their season is almost certainly beyond redemption at this point, so why not give Arauz more playing time?

8/11/20 Ron Roenicke Praises Jonathan Arauz After Red Sox Rookie's Big Night. Monday was a memorable night for Jonathan Arauz. Arauz, a Rule 5 draft pick by the Red Sox back in December, made his third career Major League Baseball start in Boston’s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park. The 22-year-old made the most of his opportunity with a 3-for-4 night at the plate, which included his first big league hit and a two-RBI single in the eighth inning that brought the Sox within one.

8/11/20 Red Sox rookie Jonathan Arauz has first 3 major-league hits in loss. The Red Sox are making a big commitment by giving Rule 5 pick Jonathan Arauz a roster spot for the entire 2020 season. In Monday’s loss to the Rays, Arauz showed a glimpse of why Boston is so high on him. Starting at third base in place of the hobbled Rafael Devers, Arauz was one of the offensive stars for Boston in an 8-7 loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs in his fifth career major-league game.

8/06/20 A roster rarity unfolding with Red Sox after latest moves. But assuming Major League Baseball locks in on 28-man rosters for the rest of the season (with taxi squad participants going from three to five players), the roster maneuvering does represent something of note. It sure looks like Jonathan Arauz is going to be sticking with the Red Sox for a while. Arauz joined the organization as a Rule 5 player this past offseason, meaning he needed to be kept on the major league roster for the entirety of the season in order to stay with the Red Sox.

7/18/20 Red Sox's toughest roster decision? Jonathan Arauz, 21-year-old Rule-5 Draft pick, likely to make club. The Red Sox — who will open the shortened 60-game season next Friday against the Orioles at Fenway Park — selected Arauz in December’s Rule 5 Draft. He must remain on the active roster the entire 2020 season (barring an injured list stint) or be offered back to his previous club, the Astros, for $50,000. A shortened 60-game season with expanded rosters for the first 29 days helps the Red Sox to carry a Rule-5 player who might not be able to help much this season.

3/29/20 Red Sox roster: 29 players for first month gives Ron Roenicke flexibility to carry 3 catchers, Rule 5 pick. Boston also would have more flexibility to carry Rule 5 Draft pick Jonathan Arauz, who the Red Sox must keep on the active roster all season (barring an IL stint) or be offered back to his previous club, the Astros, for $50,000. Both Plawecki and Lucroy were impressing during spring training camp. Plawecki’s at-bats right now are fantastic, Roenicke said March 6.

2/28/20 Sale to start season where he ended 2019: on injured list. Jonathan Arauz, a 21-year-old shortstop, hit a three-run homer for Boston and 20-year-old prospect Bryan Mata allowed two hits and walked one with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Jeter Downs, acquired in the deal that sent Mookie Betts to the Dodgers, went 0 for 1 and is hitless with three strikeouts in seven at-bats. BRAVES 3, CARDINALS 1 Dansby Swanson's RBI double gave Atlanta a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning.

12/12/19 Red Sox add two utility infielders, including former Red Jose Peraza. In addition to veteran Peraza, the Sox got Astros prospect Jonathan Arauz in the Rule 5 draft.
