4/14/24 Yankees' sweep spoiled by Guardians in extra innings loss. The New York Yankees (12-4) couldn't pull off the sweep against the Cleveland Guardians (10-5) on Sunday following a 8-7 loss at Progressive Field. While the Yankees were going for a clean sweep after taking both games of the doubleheader Saturday, that wouldn't be in the plans for the Bronx Bombers. Getting the start for the Yankees on the mound was left Nestor Cortes. It wasn't the smoothest outing for Cortes, who gave up two home runs and failed to get out of the fifth inning. Yankees captain Aaron Judge got the offense on the board with a booming three-run home run in the top of the third inning. The Guardians took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run from former Yankee

4/14/24 MLB fans loved hilariously funky pitch from Yankees' Nestor Cortes. New York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes has long been known for his funky delivery, which often include a lot of hesitation to throw off the timing of the batter. During Sunday's game against the Cleveland Guardians, however, Cortes took it to a completely new level. With no one on base and two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Cortes went through his motion, slowed down halfway through and then quickly pump-faked a pitch. For more Yankees coverage , check out Kevin Hickey's work on Sporting News . No runners were on base so it wouldn't constitute as a balk, but this definitely comes close to the line of what is allowed and what isn't without runners on base. Just check it out

Nestor Cortes was shelled for seven runs over 10 innings in his first two starts this year, but two-hit the Fish over eight shutout innings in his latest outing. Yanks play the last of their three-game set in Cleveland. The Guardians' sophomore starter Logan Allen was superb winning his first two starts, but was yanked when the Chisox scored five runs over four frames last out. 4/13/24 Guardians look to bounce back, avoid sweep vs. Yankees. Looking to build on a much-needed strong showing, Nestor Cortes has a chance to help the New York Yankees continue their sizzling start at the expense of the suddenly struggling Cleveland Guardians. The left-hander will try to lead the visiting Yankees to a three-game series sweep of the Guardians on Sunday. Cortes (1-1, 3.50 ERA), New York's Opening Day starter with Gerrit Cole injured, struggled his his first two starts: seven runs, 13 hits and four walks over 10 innings. Then Monday against Miami in Yankee Stadium, he matched a career-high eight innings and yielded just two hits and struck out six without a walk in the Yankees' 7-0 victory.

4/09/24 Yankees' Nestor Cortes showing flashes of 2022 brilliance. A quality start like the one Nestor Cortes had on Monday was just the boost that the New York Yankees' pitching staff needed, and for multiple reasons. For starters, it reinstates fans' confidence in Cortes. The common thread throughout the last two seasons is that he forces flyouts more than any other out that's not a strikeout, coincidentally 36.4% in both years.
