3/24/24 Prospect News: Surviving Final Cuts or Mize To The Max. The Orioles did their thing week, demoting SS Jackson Holliday and 3B Coby Mayo despite both belonging to what might be Baltimore’s best opening day lineup. I got a kick out of a recent article claiming the Orioles didn’t get where they are by tanking. I like the project, as a position-statement-type writing assignment. Tough side to support. I mean sure they Rule 5 drafted Anthony Santander and played him every day until he was functional. Sure they landed Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson and Kyle Bradish via strategic quitting. They also did other stuff, but that doesn’t change the fact that they lost as badly as possible for several years to get to where they are now. They did smart stuff, for sure, but I don’t know why it’s bad to call this reality by its name.

3/06/24 Orioles observations on Anthony Santander's stance, Coby Mayo making his case and more vs. Pirates. After getting off to a 2-for-17 start to spring training, Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander provided the biggest swing of the night Wednesday with a two-run home run in Baltimore's 6-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. On a cool, rainy evening when many would-be home runs died at the warning track, Santander stepped in the left-handed batter's box in the first inning and pulled a long flyball over the right field wall against the Pirates' expected opening day starter Mitch Keller. It was the first extra-base hit of the Grapefruit League slate for Santander, who tied infielder Gunnar Henderson for the team lead in homers last season with 28.

2/19/24 As Orioles begin full-squad workouts, players embrace high expectations. BALTIMORE - The last out of the 2023 season still stings for the Baltimore Orioles . However, with what they accomplished -- winning 101 games, winning the American League East and making it to the playoffs -- the O's are confident in their rise up the MLB ranks. It's a new season, five weeks until the season opener, and the Orioles once again have high expectations for themselves. "This is a new year," Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander said. "We got here with the right mentality, working hard to get better every single day. To be in the World Series this year, that's our goal for everybody here." Pitchers and catchers reported to the Orioles spring training complex on February 14 in Sarasota,

Former Orioles general manager Dan Duquette sure hit on that pick. Santander has been a solid piece to Baltimore's lineup and a big part of the rebuild after new GM

1/22/24 Orioles Sign Promising Left-Hander. Baltimore Orioles Sign Promising Left-Hander to Avoid Arbitration The Baltimore Orioles will have one of their promising lefties back in the mix this season as they agreed to a contract that avoids arbitration. Author: Brad Wakai Publish date: Jan 22, 2024 2:30 PM EST In this story: Baltimore Orioles It's very rare that a player on the Baltimore Orioles reaches arbitration under the leadership of Mike Elias. Since he took over the executive vice president and general manager role in November 2018, only Anthony Santander has ever reached arbitration. That could change this year as five players were unsigned with Cionel Perez, Austin Hays, Ryan O'Hearn, Danny Coulombe and Jacob Webb looking

Inspired by Taylor Swift re-releasing her own songs as (Taylor's version), Camden Chat writers will be spending the rest of 2023 re-releasing some Orioles game recaps and giving them better endings. This recap imagines that Baltimore squeaked out Game 1 of the ALDS against the Rangers. Anthony Santander played a pivotal role in the Orioles' rebuild. 12/18/23 Sal Frelick, 2024 Fantasy Sleeper. Wrote an Anthony Santander sleeper last year, and he's still kinda asleep. I wrote a Cedric Mullins sleeper a few years ago, and he woke, then went back to sleep for his draft season. Wrote a Taylor Ward sleeper last year and loved him so freakin' much, and he's a sleeper still, because he disappointed. That is a few outfielders who come to mind that I saw being drafted late: Noted they were sleepers, but chose to ignore them because I had been there before. I don't want to go over the same guys again. Think that gets as stale to read as it is to write. With that said (HA!), here's what Itch said about Sal Frelick previously

11/27/23 Orioles' Anthony Santander floated by Jeff Passan as possible trade candidate. The Baltimore Orioles' plunge to the bottom of the MLB standings to end the 2010s finally began to pay off, even culminating in the AL East crown during the 2023 season. Anthony Santander is in the final year of arbitration, and as a 29-year old outfielder squarely in the middle of his prime, he will be expensive to keep for the Orioles moving forward.

11/12/23 Sunday Bird Droppings: Free agency is open and the waiting game is on. There are now 137 days remaining until Orioles Opening Day 2024. This is going to be an important offseason for the Orioles if they're going to achieve the goal of having a team with sustained success across several seasons. One crucial question for Mike Elias and the brain trust to consider about each returning player is: How likely is he to do at least as well next year? Maybe you think this was the high water mark for Anthony Santander.

11/09/23 Orioles Could Target Postseason Star in Free Agency. Baltimore Orioles Could Target Postseason Star in Free Agency The Baltimore Orioles could be in the market to add veteran help if they do move off a couple of their players. They might look to this postseason star. Author: Brad Wakai Publish date: Nov 9, 2023 2:00 PM EST In this story: Baltimore Orioles There's been a lot of speculation that the Baltimore Orioles might trade one or both of their star outfielders this offseason. Rumors have swirled about Anthony Santander and Austin Hays potentially being moved out of town. The Orioles have been reluctant to move Santander in the past but his projected salary for the upcoming season could finally make them truly listen to offers. Hays has

9/29/23 Baltimore Orioles clinch AL East title with 100th win of the season. Ramón Urías fielded a grounder and threw to first for the final out, and the Baltimore Orioles poured onto the field for a celebration at the mound. Perhaps it was a sign of just how grueling — and at times exhausting — this race or the AL East title was. Anthony Santander homered, DL Hall worked out of a sixth-inning jam and the Orioles clinched the division championship with a 2-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. "It was the AL Beast again this year, and we knew it," outfielder Austin Hays said.

9/28/23 Orioles clinch the AL East title with their 100th win of the season, 2-0 over Red Sox. Anthony Santander homered, DL Hall worked out of a sixth-inning jam and the Baltimore Orioles clinched the AL East title with a 2-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. Dean Kremer (13-5) allowed two hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings, striking out eight, and the Orioles reached 100 wins for the sixth time in team history and first since 1980. Baltimore prevailed in a brutally tough division that relegated the Red Sox and New York Yankees to afterthoughts. Now the Orioles — two years after losing 110 games — will enter the postseason as the top seed in the American League.
