What’s poppin’, Razzpimples?

Pretty quick read for y’all today. I like to do one of these each year: who’s currently being underdrafted for saves in fantasy baseball? Last year I highlighted Ryan Helsley, Pete Fairbanks, Tanner Scott, Jose Leclerc, Alex Lange, Jose Alvarado, Kyle Finnegan, and Robert Suarez. Please, blog, may I have some more?

2/21/25 Red Sox listed as possible landing spot for $8.5 million Cardinals All-Star. The Boston Red Sox have had a busy offseason. While the trade deadline is months away, it's never too early to start discussing what could take place when it arrives. Boston could be in the mix for some relief help. Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed the idea of Boston trading for All-Star closer Ryan Helsley at the deadline.

2/20/25 MLB rumors: Cardinals predicted to make spring trade, even if it's not Nolan Arenado. The St Louis Cardinals have had a stunningly quiet offseason. With a rebuild underway, and Chaim Bloom waiting in the wings to take over baseball operations, things are bleak. ESPN insider Jesse Rogers says the Cardinals could still make a trade before the season, potentially involving closer Ryan Helsley. Or maybe closer Ryan Helsley is on the move.

1/27/25 Cardinals Could Invest Nearly $80 Million To Retain Gold Glover, Per Insider. The St. Louis Cardinals are committed to reducing their payroll heading into 2025 but they must eventually spend money to rebuild the floundering franchise. With Opening Day two months away, the Cardinals haven't spent much of anything this offseason. Of the players St. Louis has in arbitration this winter, only flamethrower Ryan Helsley, JoJo Romero, and John King reached an agreement with the organization. Skimping homegrown players during arbitration can only persist until the Cardinals must move on from someone or agree to a contract extension.

1/20/25 Cardinals $8.2 Million Star Takes Hard Stance On Future: 'Two-Way Street'. The St. Louis Cardinals have had a really weird offseason to this point. St. Louis has been in a lot of rumors but hasn't really done anything of substance yet. The Cardinals have a few weeks to go until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training but it just has been an odd offseason. One player who has been in trade rumors throughout the offseason is All-Star closer Ryan Helsley.

1/19/25 St. Louis Cardinals and All-Star Closer Not Talking About Contract Extensions. Speaking this weekend at the team's Winter Warm-Up event, All-Star closer Ryan Helsley says there has been no talk of a contract extension between him and the team. In addition to Arenado, the team let Paul Goldschmidt go in free agency and they also declined options on Kyle Gibson and Lance Lynn.

1/14/25 Could Royals Target Cardinals All-Star Closer To Boost Bullpen?. The Kansas City Royals have made a few key moves this offseason. With their cross-state rivals St. Louis Cardinals rebuilding, Kansas City might be wise to give them a call about closer Ryan Helsley. Helsley is entering the final year of his contract with St. Louis, and they have been unable to trim their payroll as a result of Nolan Arenado not being traded.

1/11/25 Cardinals Urged To Sign $6.5 Million Ex-Met To Replace Andrew Kittredge. The St. Louis Cardinals had one of the best bullpens in baseball last year but it has taken a hit already this offseason. There has been a lot of speculation that the Cardinals could cut ties with All-Star closer Ryan Helsley this offseason through a trade, but he remains on the roster. Hopefully, that remains the case by the time Spring Training gets here. The Cardinals did lose a key piece of the bullpen in free agency with Andrew Kittredge signing a one-year, $10 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

1/09/25 Ryan Helsley Lands $4.4 Million Raise In Potential Final Offseason With Cardinals. The St. Louis Cardinals couldn't have asked for much more from 2024 Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Ryan Helsley this past season. After assuming the closing pitcher role with the Cardinals shortly before the 2024 season began, Helsley is now one of the most prolific closers in the game -- a highly coveted one. Before Helsley is eligible to explore the free-agent market for the first time in his career next year, the Cardinals have agreed with the fireballer to hopefully retain him for another season.

1/01/25 Cardinals blockbuster trade idea swaps All-Star for No. 4 Diamondbacks prospect. The St. Louis Cardinals have a plan for 2025, and that plan likely involves trading their All-Star closer. Ryan Helsley was fantastic in 2024, leading Major League Baseball with 49 saves and making his second appearance at the Midsummer Classic. There are interesting questions that stem from a possible Helsley trade. On Tuesday, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer proposed a hypothetical trade that would send Helsley to the Arizona Diamondbacks for right-handed pitching prospect Yilber Díaz.

According to a report from MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Toronto Blue Jays have expressed interest in acquiring closer Ryan Helsley in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals. In addition to president of baseball operations John Mozeliak saying that it is his intention to trade Arenado, St. Louis has received interest from the Blue Jays and D-backs in trading for All-Star closer Ryan Helsley, a source said. The Cardinals are absolutely looking to shed payroll, as evidenced by wanting to trade Arenado and them letting Paul Goldschmidt walk in free agency, but thus far, they haven't really entertained the idea of trading Helsley.

12/19/24 Cardinals Urged To Trade $80 Million Fan Favorite To Rangers In Three-Player Swap. The St. Louis Cardinals are more worried about shedding payroll this winter than having a competitive roster to showcase come Opening Day 2025. Trading away significant talent isn't out of the question for the Cardinals, as the front office plans to make room for younger talent to gain experience next season. "Both Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported earlier this offseason that—despite St. Louis' stated plan of getting younger and building toward the future—the Cardinals are not expected to trade away closer Ryan Helsley unless they get an offer they simply cannot refuse.," Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller wrote Thursday morning.

12/18/24 Cardinals Projected $81 Million All-Star Mentioned As Trade Chip. Will the St. Louis Cardinals pull off a trade to deplete their bullpen? Ryan Helsley is a year away from free agency and was the best closer in baseball in 2024 with 49 saves. There was a time earlier in the offseason when it very much seemed like the team was going to move Helsley. Spotrac currently is projecting his market value to be $81 million over six years.

12/12/24 Cardinals Trade $44 Million Hurler Before Ryan Helsley In Latest Insider Prediction. The St. Louis Cardinals' most valuable trade chip is 2024 Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Ryan Helsley but it's starting to look like he might not be moved just yet. Although the Cardinals are rebuilding and could use a fresh haul of top prospects to replenish their lackluster farm system, retaining Helsley is beginning to emerge as a top priority for St. Louis. "With plenty of high-end closers on the market, there's a strong chance the Cardinals could start the season with a rostered Helsley, who recorded a franchise-record 49 saves in 53 opportunities last season," MLB.com's John Denton wrote Wednesday evening.

12/10/24 Cardinals $260 million former All-Star drawing interest from Yankees. The St. Louis Cardinals plan to cut payroll this offseason. While the chances of a Ryan Helsley trade seem to be dwindling, that is not the case for former MVP candidate Nolan Arenado. John Mozeliak has made it clear that he intends to trade the eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glover. Where Arenado will end up is uncertain, but it appears that his days in a Cardinals uniform are numbered.

12/09/24 Cardinals Homegrown 2-Time All-Star May Stay In St. Louis, Per Insider. The St. Louis Cardinals have been in a lot of trade rumors already this offseason but maybe one of the team's biggest stars will stick around after all. There has been a lot of speculation about the future of All-Star closer Ryan Helsley. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold reported that the team appears "less and less inclined" to make a move involving him. "An offseason that began with a spyglass toward the future has become a needle the Cardinals intend to thread: Officials with the club and sources with other teams or agents who have spoken to the Cardinals describe a team that isn't 'tearing down' a year before Chaim Bloom takes over as president of baseball operations," Goold said.
