10/09/24 | Chicago Cubs Are Well-Positioned Heading Into Offseason To Improve in 2025. The 2024 season was one of what-ifs for the Chicago Cubs. How different would things have been if their veterans, who heated up at the end of the season, found their stride in June instead of August? If Cody Bellinger opts out of his contract, can they find another middle-of-the-order bat to replace his production? Pete Crow-Armstrong and Michael Busch emerged as young building blocks. 10/08/24 | Local Chicago Cubs insiders offer revealing Cody Bellinger prediction. Often times when Jed Hoyer is addressing the state of affairs for the Chicago Cubs, there is a need to read between the lines. Hoyer defended the season that Bellinger had despite there being a regression in his power numbers and the main takeaway was that the Cubs' President of Baseball Operations may be planning, if not, hoping that Bellinger opts out of his current contract with the Cubs. If Bellinger does elect for free agency, that would free up $52.5MM in financial flexibility over the next two seasons. Source: https://cubbiescrib.com/local-chicago-cubs-insider... |
10/07/24 | Brent Rooker could be the answer to the Chicago Cubs' biggest offseason need. Much of the Chicago Cubs' offseason plans revolve around what Cody Bellinger will do. Within five days after the conclusion of the World Series, Bellinger will need to decide if he will opt out of his current contract with the Cubs or return with the price tag of $27.5MM. When Jed Hoyer addressed Bellinger's opt-out decision last week, it sounded like he was making the case for the 2023 National League Comeback Player of the Year to test free agency for a second consecutive offseason. While Bellinger's power numbers were down in 2024, there is a case to be made that he could stand to benefit as the fallback option for teams who aren't able to sign Juan Soto. 10/01/24 | Chicago Cubs: 4 highlights from Jed Hoyer's season-ending remarks — including coaching staff changes and Cody Bellinger's looming decision. For the second consecutive year, Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer sat at the dais trying to explain why a team built with playoff aspirations was again sitting at home as Major League Baseball's postseason got underway. Hoyer, who will be entering the final year of his five-year contract, acknowledged the Cubs' shortcomings. “When I think about our season and where we are I'm disappointed but optimistic,” Hoyer said Tuesday. Beyond the disappointment of not making the postseason (in a full-length season) since 2018, Hoyer touched on a variety of topics during his nearly 45-minute end-of-the-season news conference. 9/30/24 | Cubs superstar projected to receive $154 million contract. The Chicago Cubs likely will be aggressive this winter. The Cubs finished the season with an 83-79 record despite being well below .500 at one point this season. There is some real hope that the Cubs could be a playoff team in 2025, and because of this, it wouldn't be shocking at all to see the team be active in free agency. Superstar slugger Cody Bellinger has the option to opt out this winter. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/chicago-cubs/n... |
