4/29/24 4 Giants most to blame for disappointing start to 2024 season. After several seasons of mediocrity, the San Francisco Giants became big spenders in the offseason. The team gave big contracts to Gold Glove winner Matt Chapman, Cy Young winner Blake Snell, Japanese outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, and power hitter Jorge Soler. Chapman has been mediocre, Snell is on the IL, Hoo Lee has a sub-.700 OPS, and Soler is batting .216.

4/28/24 Hitter Profiles: To Buy Or Not to Buy…. It is time for one of our favorite traditions here with hitter profiles as we debate early season performance and identify some buy or sell candidates at current ownership rates.  This week, we will dig through a few of the leaderboards trying to find players with hot starts and figure out if we have struck gold or are simply fools in waiting.  With all of the injuries so far this season, owners are rushing to fill lineup holes and anybody that is off to a hot start may seem like a lineup mainstay when they should really be trade bait.  Last season, we had a Matt Chapman return to glory only to scuttle for much of the year.  On the flip side, James Outman was able to sustain the results all season providing a huge lift for fantasy owners that jumped on the train early.  Let’s dive into three intriguing players as we close out the first month of the 2024 fantasy baseball season.

4/07/24 Matt Chapman keys late rally for Giants in 3-2 comeback win over Padres.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Matt Chapman drove in two runs, including a go-ahead single in the eighth inning that led the San Francisco Giants over the San Diego Padres 3-2 on Sunday for their first series win this season.

San Diego led 2-0 before Chapman's RBI groundout in the sixth on a potential inning-inning, double-play grounder to Jake Cronenworth. The first baseman stepped on the base, then threw to second only for the ball to bounce off the glove of shortstop Ha-Seong Kim, who had cut in front of the bag. That ended the Giants' 14-inning scoreless streak.

Wilmer Flores singled with one out in the eighth off Jhony Brito, Jorge Soler singled and Michael Conforto hit a run-scoring grounder. Confoto followed with an opposite-field single to right that scored Soler standing up.

Brito (0-2) allowed a pair of unearned runs in his second decision since San Diego acquired him from the New York Yankees in the Juan Soto trade.

Camilo Doval allowed a two-out single to Jackson Merrill, then struck out Luis Campuasano for his first save after tying for the NL lead with 39 last year.

Cronenworth hit an RBI double in the first on a drive over Jung Hoo Lee and high off the center-field wall. Kim added a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Ryan Walker (1-0) pitched a hitless inning in relief of Logan Webb, who allowed two runs in seven innings.

San Francisco drew 40,149 in its third straight sellout, matching its 2023 total.

4/05/24 Thairo Estrada walks off Padres to give SF Giants dramatic win in home opener. A sellout crowd roared and rose to its feet Friday afternoon as Matt Chapman rounded third and raced home, sliding headfirst to score on Thairo Estrada's walkoff double, but possibly none of the 40,645 on hand were as relieved as Michael Conforto to see the winning run cross the plate. Thrown out on the bases in the third inning, Conforto made one of a handful of mental errors from the home team that nearly soured the first game this season on the shores of McCovey Cove.

4/01/24 Kurtenbach: 3 up, 3 down from the Giants' season-opening series. All in all, the Giants ended the first series of the year as you would have predicted: .500. No, it was a roller coaster ride of emotion, featuring the best and worst the Giants had to offer, all in one long weekend. The Padres have a player who can do it — Fernando Tatis Jr. On Friday night, the perennial MVP candidate hit two home runs (including one that was impossible) and flashed serious leather in right field, where he won the Platinum Glove last season. Matt Chapman also hit two home runs Friday.

3/30/24 Chapman homers twice and drives in 5 runs to help Harrison and the Giants beat the Padres 8-3. Matt Chapman homered twice, doubled and drove in five runs for the San Francisco Giants, who jumped on Joe Musgrove early in an 8-3 win over the San Diego Padres. Kyle Harrison (1-0), a 22-year-old lefty, got plenty of run support to overcome impressive home runs by Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis homered again off reliever Tyler Rogers. Chapman hit a two-run homer in the three-run first, his first. He hit a massive two-run shot with one out in the ninth off the top level of the four-story brick warehouse in the left-field corner. r

3/28/24 1 bonkers trade Giants must make during 2024 season. For all the talk about the San Francisco Giants being unable to land any big fish in free agency this decade, they had one of the best hauls in their franchise's history this past offseason. Jung-hoo Lee gives new manager Bob Melvin speed and contact at the top of their lineup. Matt Chapman and Jorge Soler add depth and power to the lineup, with the former bringing Platinum Glove defense at third base as well.

3/26/24 Giants fall to A's in Bay Bridge Series, set sights on Opening Day. The Giants wrapped up spring training Tuesday with a 3-1 loss to the Athletics at Oracle Park, with their crossbay rivals salvaging a split before a crowd of 27,706. The team took on a different look during spring training, especially with the late additions of third baseman Matt Chapman and left-handed pitcher Blake Snell in free agency. Other newcomers include center fielder Jung Hoo Lee and designated hitter Jorge Soler. The Giants were blanked by A's starter Paul Blackburn for 5 2/3 innings with the biggest cheers coming for Pablo Sandoval, who isn't expected to be on the 26-man roster when they open the season Thursday in San Diego against the Padres.

3/18/24 Kurtenbach: Blake Snell is coming to San Francisco and suddenly the Giants make a whole lot more sense. The Giants wanted to make a splash this offseason. Well, the offseason ended weeks ago, but the Giants have certainly made a splash. To start off March, San Francisco signed All-Star, Gold-Glove third baseman Matt Chapman — one of the top free-agent position players on the market. The New York Post reported that the Giants and Snell agreed to a two-year deal (with an opt-out after 2024) worth $62 million.

3/16/24 MLB rumors: Astros remain linked to Blake Snell as interest heats up. With MLB Opening Day less than two weeks away, the Houston Astros are poised to be among the elite teams in baseball yet again. Snell is eyeing a contract similar to the ones recently signed by Matt Chapman with the San Francisco Giants and Cody Bellinger with the Chicago Cubs, which include three years with two opt-out clauses so that he could potentially maximize his earnings by testing the free agent market again.

3/13/24 Why SF Giants opted to keep Wilmer Flores over J.D. Davis: 'One of our most important players'. When the Giants' offseason-long pursuit of Matt Chapman finally culminated in a contract midway through spring training, it didn't take an astute observer to see the positional logjam on the depth chart. There was no way the Giants could use up three spots of their 26-man roster on right-handed hitting corner infielders.

3/11/24 The Giants Cut J.D. Davis And $5.8M Of His Salary. Earlier this month the San Francisco Giants signed free agent third baseman Matt Chapman to a three-year, $54 million contract, with opt outs after the first two seasons. Chapman will make $18 million this year, and could make upwards of $73 million if the option for season four is picked up. Because the Blue Jays made a qualifying offer to Chapman, the Giants have to give up a second round draft pick and $500,000 from their international signing bonus pool. To make room for Chapman on the club's 40-man roster, they immediately moved pitcher Tristan Beck to the 60-day injured list.

3/07/24 SF Giants mid-spring roster projection: How do Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler fit in?. While it's not quite the midpoint of the Cactus League schedule, the San Francisco Giants are officially closer to Opening Day in San Diego than the day most reported for camp. Despite posturing from president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, that late signings risk to disrupt the group already assembled, no team has been more aggressive in scooping up free agents who waited out the slow-moving market all the way into spring training. Since we last projected the group of 26 to break camp with the big-league club, Zaidi has brought in an everyday third baseman, an everyday cleanup hitter and a veteran shortstop who may well challenge their top prospect for the Opening Day nod. How do Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler and Nick Ahmed fit into the picture?
