Montas (2-3, 3.55 ERA) was one of manager Bob Melvin's top pitchers from 2017-21, helping the A's reach the postseason from 2018-20.

They've lost six-straight games. Here's the good, bad and ugly from their loss: The Good Frankie Montas returned to the mound, giving up just two runs in six innings. He also had seven strikeouts. The ex-Yankees starter, a trade deadline acquisition from two summers ago that flopped pinstripes, taught Yankees non-roster invitee Dennis Santana a new cutter during this past offseason, a pitch that's been impressive so far this spring. Santana recalled how Montas showed him a new cutter grip about two months ago, insisting that it's been “unbelievable” ever since. “Last year, I didn't have the cutter,” Santana added.
