5/05/24 Edwin Diaz blows save as Mets lose to Rays in extras for gut-wrenching sweep. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — An odd game that featured some of everything — defensive miscues, a drilled pitcher exiting early, nine walks issued by Mets pitchers, the Rays running wild and a series of lead changes — finished with a suitable stunner. Edwin Diaz blew his first save in nearly two years in the ninth, and the Rays mounted a 10th-inning rally to escape with a 7-6 over the Mets at Tropicana Field to finish off a gut-wrenching sweep. 4/28/24 Mets reliever Reed Garrett vultures fifth victory of season. After the Mets used Edwin Diaz for the ninth inning Sunday and failed to score in the bottom of the inning there was little question about who was next. Enter Reed Garrett, who is quickly emerging as a 21st century “Vulture” with his penchant for scooping up wins. The right-hander helped the Mets survive in a 4-2 victory over the Cardinals in 11 innings at Citi Field. Mets relief pitcher Reed Garrett pitches during the Mets' win over the Cardinals on April 28, 2024. Bill Kostroun Garrett pitched a scoreless 10th and allowed the automatic runner (unearned) to score in the 11th on Brendan Donovan's single before the Mets scored three in the bottom of the inning, winning on Mark Vientos' homer.

4/24/24 Mets bullpen holding up despite heavy workload as starters exit games early. SAN FRANCISCO — As the Mets have struggled to receive length from their starting pitchers, the bullpen has been pushed hard over the first month, with positive results. Entering Wednesday, the Mets are first in the National League with a 2.99 ERA from their relievers. Strong performances from a group that has included Edwin Diaz, Reed Garrett, Brooks Raley, Drew Smith, Adam Ottavino, Jorge Lopez and Jake Diekman have been the norm. The question is whether it's sustainable for a team that has averaged roughly five innings (4.99) per start from starting pitchers over the first 23 games. It has left manager Carlos Mendoza to regularly deploy four relievers on a given day. “I think it's definitely

4/18/24 Reed Garrett proves to be unexpected unhittable Mets reliever. Through about three weeks of the season, the Mets predictably own a reliever who has been as unhittable as anyone in baseball. The identity of that reliever has been less predictable. Edwin Diaz has been typically excellent, but the club's closer has been less impressive than a journeyman middle reliever who has emerged as a potential revelation. 3 New York Mets pitcher Reed Garrett tries to get the ball to first base but commits a throwing error during the seventh inning of a baseball game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. AP Through a still-tiny sample size, Reed Garrett has been best-in-baseball good. Entering MLB action Thursday, no one else struck out hitters at a better rate (a stunning 54.8

4/15/24 Mets' Edwin Diaz looks dominant again after saves on back-to-back days. Edwin Diaz couldn't have scripted a better start to his post-injury season. After notching his second save in as many days, and the 100th of his Mets career, the closer has allowed just one earned run over seven innings. He's looked every bit like the dominant reliever the franchise had prior to missing all of last year with a knee injury. “I feel good, man. I feel amazing. My arm feels great,” Diaz said after notching his fourth save of the season in a come-from-behind, 6-3 victory over the Pirates at Citi Field. “I've been able to work, bounce back really good, so I feel really good.” Edwin Diaz recorded his fourth save of the season during the Mets' win against the Pirates on Monday. 4/06/24 Mets Notebook: Edwin Diaz winning friendly wager against younger brother Alexis Diaz. Edwin Diaz and his brother, Cincinnati Reds closer Alexis, have a bet going this season. The brother that records the fewest saves in the six-game season series between the Mets and Reds has to pay for family dinner during the offseason. Alexis pitched Saturday but not in a save situation. “I told him, 'You're in the big leagues now, you're making money so you should take us out,'” Diaz joked Friday night after recording his first save of the season.

4/02/24 Edwin Diaz's popular Mets entrance gets dazzling new light show. Edwin Diaz's extravagant bullpen entrance just got a whole lot brighter. The team showed off its new LED light display when the star closer made his first night game appearance of the season at Citi Field on Monday. With his iconic walkout song, “Narco” by Timmy Trumpet, blasting in the background, Diaz took the mound in the ninth inning in a 0-0 score with the Detroit Tigers, delighting the crowd in Queens. 4/02/24 The Mets may stink but Edwin Diaz's trumpet entrance is even better with a new thrilling light show. The New York Mets are having a truly disastrous start to the 2024 MLB season, but there is also good news if you're a fan of this team. Despite starting off the season with four consecutive losses for the first time since 2005, among the players, the vibes are in a very good place. Perhaps a big reason why is the return of closer Edwin Diaz. The star pitcher missed all of last season while celebrating in the World Baseball Classic, which was a heartbreaking disaster for everyone involved.

3/28/24 Edwin Diaz's 'Sugar' nickname no longer applies after diet change. The changes in the Mets' bullpen will begin with Edwin Diaz, whose “Sugar” nickname is now a misnomer. Many of the names, faces and arm angles among Mets relievers will be new when the season begins Friday against the Brewers at Citi Field. Their closer will not technically be new, but he will be welcomed back by a crowd that sorely missed him last season, when Diaz did not pitch after tearing his patellar tendon. 4 Relief pitcher Edwin Diaz (39) pitches in the seventh inning against the Miami Marlins at Clover Park. 3/27/24 After season away, Mets star closer Edwin Diaz ready to hear the trumpets again at Citi Field. Edwin Diaz is waiting as eagerly as a kid on Christmas for his cue. The Mets haven't heard Blasterjaxx's “Narco” at Citi Field since October 2022, hitting pause after Diaz tore the patellar tendon in his right knee last spring at the World Baseball Classic. The Mets used it the first time he pitched in a minor league game on a backfield at the Clover Park complex. “They love the trumpets,” Diaz told the Daily News.

3/20/24 Mets Notebook: Christian Scott makes Grapefruit League start, Edwin Diaz makes 3rd appearance. Christian Scott grew up coming to spring training games in Jupiter, sitting in the left field bleachers of Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium where kids congregate with the hope of visiting players tossing up some autographed balls. This spring he was finally able to pitch there, making his first two Grapefruit League appearances at the same ballpark he frequented as a child. “It's just kind of a full circle moment for me,” Scott said after the Mets' 6-3 spring training win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. Scott, a rising starting pitching prospect in the Mets' system, was able to make two appearances in Jupiter this spring, with his second being his first-ever Grapefruit League start.

New York Mets star closer Edwin Diaz returned to the mound in a competitive capacity for the first time since suffering a torn patellar tendon in his knee while celebrating with his Puerto Rican national teammates during the World Baseball Classic 12 months ago. After entering to his trademark song, “Narco” by Timmy Trumpet, he struck out the side in a clean fifth inning against the Miami Marlins. “Three strikeouts in the first outing is amazing,” Diaz said.
