2/06/25 | What do Major Projection Systems Say About the Diamondbacks?. The Arizona Diamondbacks won 89 games last year, on the strength of a league best offense, overcoming a pitching staff that struggled with injury and underperformance. Despite attrition in the form of departing free agents Christian Walker and Joc Pederson, they managed to trade for slugging first baseman Josh Naylor and bring back Randal Grichuk. The biggest move this offseason was the signing of free agent, front line starter Corbin Burnes. Adding these players to an already strong core, including Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll, and Zac Gallen, appears to have put the Diamondbacks in a strong position to compete once again for a National League playoff spot. 1/04/25 | Insider Throws Cold Water on Possibility Houston Astros Land Slugging Outfielder. A lot of things have been said about the Houston Astros this offseason. The Astros front office is confident the moves they made - signing Christian Walker and getting back Isaac Paredes and Hayden Wesneski - will still allow them to compete this year, while also adding a star prospect and opening up some more financial flexibility. Houston is projected to be over the luxury tax threshold once again, the first time owner Jim Crane would carry a payroll that high in back-to-back seasons. Without Tucker covering right field and in the lineup, Chas McCormick will be tasked with replacing his production. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/insider-throws-... |
12/29/24 | Could Corbin Burnes Deal Prompt Houston Astros To Trade Framber Valdez?. It seems like the Houston Astros are content with the roster they have in place after handing star first baseman Christian Walker a three-year, $60 million deal to bolster that position during this championship window. While there are those out there who doubt the Astros can compete for a World Series title in 2025 because they traded away Kyle Tucker and are losing Alex Bregman in free agency, the organization is confident they are going to contend. During this dynastic run by Houston, they have largely destroyed their pipeline by trading away their top minor leaguers to bring in established Major League players who can help them win now. It was the smart thing to do at the time, but it's hard to have sustained success when the current crop of players age out or leave in free agency, so Brown has been tasked with making sure the farm system gets replenished.
