2/08/25 New York Yankees Receive Lofty Postseason Projection for Upcoming Campaign. The New York Yankees were able to win the American League pennant in 2024, reaching the World Series for the first time since 2009. Alas, they weren't able to reach the mountaintop, losing in five games to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Closer Clay Holmes also joined the Mets and second baseman Gleyber Torres departed as well, joining the Detroit Tigers.

1/31/25 Carlos Mendoza 'very comfortable' with Mets' rotation depth as starters tout staff's potential. The signed Clay Holmes, believing the two-time All-Star reliever's untapped arsenal will allow him to transition to the starting rotation. “This rotation has the potential to pretty much throw, I would say, five No. 1s, every five days,” Montas said last weekend during the Amazin' Day fan festival at Citi Field. Montas, 31, is three years removed from a 2021 season in which he finished sixth in American League Cy Young Award voting with the Oakland A's. He is 12-23 with a 4.45 ERA over the past three seasons with the A's, Yankees, Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers, and he missed nearly all of 2023 after undergoing right shoulder surgery.

1/30/25 Mets' Clay Holmes happy with progress in his transition to starting as Carlos Mendoza reaffirms commitment. Clay Holmes' transition to a starting pitcher is off to a good, well, start. Holmes, who spent most of the past three seasons as the Yankees' closer, signed a three-year, $39 million contract with the Mets this winter with plans to become a starter. The offseason stages of those plans are going well, says Holmes, who reported to the Mets' spring training facility in Port St. Lucie in mid-January.

1/27/25 Mets make promise to Clay Holmes as he gets head start on $38 million role change. Clay Holmes is entering unfamiliar territory this spring, swapping Tampa for Port St. Lucie and the reliever life for a starting role . So one of the more intriguing members of the Mets rotation arrived at their spring training complex over a week ago — with pitchers and catchers not required to report until Feb. 12 — to get a head start on his buildup. The former Yankees closer, who signed with the Mets on a three-year, $38 million contract last month , is encouraged by how the transition to becoming a starter has gone so far. 3 Clay Holmes speaks at Mets fan fest on Jan. 25, 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST “It's not like I'm having to necessarily change who I am as a pitcher,” Holmes said

1/13/25 $16 million All-Star predicted to leave Mets and sign with Twins. The New York Mets have made key additions to their rotation this winter. The signings of Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas could push one of their starters from 2024 out of the mix. José Quintana remains unsigned and the Mets may not be interested in bringing him back. "The Twins do not have much in the way of financial flexibility, but they could still prioritize adding another veteran, and left-hander José Quintana would bring some balance to a staff of right-handers," wrote Reuter.
