4/24/25 MLB roundup: Mets overtake Phils, cap 7-0 homestand. Starling Marte's walk-off RBI single with two outs in the 10th wrapped up the Mets' 4-3 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday and completed a perfect homestand for New York. The Mets' 7-0 showing ranked as the second-longest undefeated homestand in franchise history — trailing only the 10-0 stretch in April 2015. That team went on to earn the franchise's most recent World Series appearance. The Mets also improved their major-league-leading record to 18-7, which trails only the 1986 World Series champions' 20-5 start in franchise annals. After Nick Castellanos' RBI single gave the Phillies a 3-2 lead in the 10th, Max Kranick (2-0) entered with the bases loaded and induced

4/20/25 Mets’ Starling Marte Sends Clear Message Amid Reduced Playing Time. Could the Mets trade a former All-Star soon?

4/20/25 Veteran Mets OF is still getting used to new role: 'It's uncomfortable, but not difficult'. For 13 seasons, Mets outfielder Starling Marte was one of baseball's most electric players. This season, he's taken a step back, embracing a diminished role that has him mostly DHing. While he's not carrying the everyday load of playing right field anymore, the Mets poached Juan Soto from the Yankees to do that, this new job has its own set of demands. Now, instead of being involved in every play, Marte is seeing action three, maybe four times, when he plays.

Sign up Now Starling Marte's transition to his new role hasn't been as seamless as he and the Mets might have hoped. Reduced to part-time status for the first time in his career, Marte, who is sharing DH duties with Jesse Winker, has an anemic .184/.273/.316 slash line in 44 plate appearances after going 1-for-4 in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Cardinals . After 12 seasons as a starter, the veteran outfielder is learning to deal with the reduced workload. “It's something I continue to work on every day,” Marte told The Post through an

4/12/25 Former A's Starter Jesus Luzardo Is Red Hot For The Phillies. This past off-season, the Philadelphia Phillies went out and acquired starter Jesús Luzardo from the Miami Marlins to help bolster an already great group of starting pitchers. The Phillies sent shortstop prospect Starlyn Caba and outfielder Emaarion Boyd to the Marlins in the deal. Luzardo spent a couple of years in the Marlins organization after being sent there in a big deadline deal that made Starling Marte an Oakland Athletic back in 2021.

3/31/25 Pete Alonso's slam powers Mets to 10-4 win over Marlins. Alonso's homer was one of four by the Mets, who collected 11 hits after they were limited to just five runs on 12 hits including one homer in a season-opening three-game series against the Houston Astros. Starling Marte went deep in the third inning and Luis Torrens hit a two-run shot to cap the fifth-inning outburst before Brandon Nimmo closed out the Mets' scoring with a two-run homer in the sixth. Jose Siri delivered the go-ahead hit with an RBI double three batters before Alonso chased Cal Quantrill by lacing his fourth career grand slam and first since May 19, 2023, when he cleared the bases against the Cleveland Guardians' James Karinchak.

3/21/25 Starling Marte says knees 'feel really good,' hopes to get opportunity to play outfield this season. A major X-factor for the Mets this season will be Starling Marte and whether or not he can stay healthy for the duration of the year, something the 36-year-old hasn't been able to do over the last two seasons in New York.

3/14/25 Why Mets' Starling Marte feels 'stronger' in his new role. Mets outfielder Starling Marte is entering a new phase in his career. At 36 years old, his body looks in good shape, but it's been betraying him over the last few seasons, where he's battled debilitating migraines, injuries to both groins and a lingering knee injury. This, paired with the signing of right fielder Juan Soto for 15 years, $765 million, has left him with a new, some might call diminished, role with the team. Instead, this is an opportunity that makes him “stronger” because it allows him to help his teammates in a different way.

On Thursday, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns revealed that Marte is still dealing with the bone bruise issue, though it's not as severe as it was at the end of last season. 3/04/25 Mets outfielder still a trade target for AL team on the rise. The Mets have an outfield problem, but relief could come soon. New York has six outfielders on their 26-man roster, taking space away for a much-needed utility infielder. One of those outfielders, Starling Marte, could be on the move soon — if the Mets can negotiate a deal with the Kansas City Royals. The Royals had expressed interest in Marte earlier this winter, according to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, but couldn't agree, because they felt the Mets' asking price was too high — relievers Hunter Harvey or Angel Zerpa.

Starling Marte remains intriguing trade option for AL contender By Joel Sherman Published March 3, 2025, 8:12 p.m. ET Starling Marte is pictured in the Mets' dugout during spring training on Feb. 15. Corey Sipkin for the NY Post The Royals made a push to try to acquire Starling Marte in winter, but could not find agreement with the Mets, who were interested in a reliever such as Hunter Harvey or Angel Zerpa while Kansas City wanted to give up a lesser arm. But Kansas City has not totally extinguished this possibility. The Royals have wanted to obtain a veteran bat who can hit fifth in their lineup, and they were willing to expand payroll with a three-year offer to Anthony Santander, who instead

2/28/25 Reese Kaplan -- How to Replace Fallen Pitchers Without Spending. Creativity is often required to find ways out of difficult problems and with the two rapid injuries to the Mets starting rotation it may be time to think a bit outside the box in order to tackle the situation while not increasing the payroll. Towards that end it's time to visit some unwanted pitchers on other teams whose presence there is no longer required but whose payroll burden could mesh well with the Mets desire to offload some of their larger an potentially unwanted salary burdens. Outfielder-turned-part-time-DH Starling Marte is on the last year of his four-year Mets contract and is slated to earn $19.5 million for the 2025 season. Unfortunately his health and age have not been a good mix and the arrival of Juan Soto took away his right field job.
