Padres infielder Luis Arraez created a notable void in the dugout and lineup after sustaining a concussion due to a serious collision with another player; however, his "spark" has now returned to the team. Arraez sustained the injury running out a ground ball to first base and colliding with a Houston Astros player. Arraez remained still on the ground, a disturbing sight for both players and fans as he was eventually carried away and later placed in concussion protocol.

PITTSBURGH -- - Luis Arraez had three hits and drove in three runs to help the San Diego Padres beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-4 on Friday night for their third straight victory. Arraez is 6 for 12 since returning from a concussion. The Padres announced that initial X-rays were negative. Oneil Cruz drew a two-out walk from Padres starter Dylan Cease in the third, stole second and scored on a single by Bryan Reynolds for a 1-0 lead.

5/02/25 Padres continue dominance of Pirates with easy win. Luis Arraez had three run-scoring hits to lead the San Diego Padres to a 9-4 win over the host Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. The Padres won their third game in a row and beat the Pirates for the seventh consecutive time after sweeping all six games between the teams in 2024. Arraez and Gavin Sheets, who hit a home run and finished with three hits and two RBIs, each contributed in a three-run fifth inning that broke a 2-2 tie and put the Padres ahead for good.

The San Diego Padres have endured a slew of injuries early this season, but none were more frightening than the scary collision Luis Arraez was involved in last weekend. On Sunday Night Baseball, Arraez collided with Houston Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubon at first while running out a bunt. The Padres star was put on a stretcher and had to be transported to a local Houston hospital for further evaluation. The incident was not only frightening onlooking fans, but Arraez's injury almost brought Fernando Tatis Jr. to tears.

4/23/25 Padres Manager Believes Rules Change 'Makes Sense' After Luis Arraez Injury Scare. San Diego Padres designated hitter Luis Arraez collided with Mauricio Dubon near first base after the Astros' second baseman raced over to cover the bag, and his momentum carried him into Arraez's running path. The collision to Arraez's head left the reigning batting champion inert for about 10 minutes while medics and athletic trainers attended to him on the field. While the game eventually resumed, Arraez was transported to Houston Methodist Hospital for further evaluation. "Thankfully, there is nothing to worry about," Arraez wrote on his Instagram account.

4/15/25 Tatis homers twice as Padres beat Cubs 10-4 to improve to 11-0 at home. Fernando Tatis Jr. homered twice and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch as the San Diego Padres improved to 11-0 at home by beating the Chicago Cubs 10-4 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series between National League division leaders. The Padres have the best record in the majors at 14-3. Tatis hit a solo homer with two outs in the third inning, scored the tiebreaking run on a wild pitch in a three-run seventh and then hit a two-run shot in the eighth. Luis Arraez also homered in the eighth, his second, to give the Padres their first back-to-back homers this season.

It's the first time since 2011 that a hitter has only struck out once in that many games to start a season. Arraez has won the batting championship each of the past three seasons, and in those seasons, he averaged 35 strikeouts total.
