4/29/25 Rafael Devers Must 'Embrace' New Role With Red Sox, Says Legendary Mariners DH. Rafael Devers is still learning to be a designated hitter. Devers may already have all the mentorship he needs within the Boston Red Sox organization, as David Ortiz has long been a mentor to his fellow Dominican slugger. Devers was moved off of his longtime third base spot at the start of the season, and his numbers aren't where he'd like them to be. Legendary designated hitter and current hitting coach Edgar Martínez of the Seattle Mariners was recently asked about Devers' struggles during his transition to the DH role, and had a message of encouragement for the 28-year-old.

4/28/25 Red Sox Have Sneaky Reason To Demote Slumping Slugger For Six Weeks. The Boston Red Sox have a clever opportunity in front of them, but it would require demoting a player whose confidence has already suffered enough recent abuse. Boston had a handful of hitters slumping to begin the 2025 season, but most of those guys have bounced back. Rafael Devers is beginning to slug, Jarren Duran is suddenly second on the team in total hits, and Ceddanne Rafaela is waking up, too. The one guy who still hasn't gotten it going at the plate is 25-year-old first baseman Triston Casas.

4/27/25 3 biggest surprises in the first few weeks of the Red Sox's season. The Boston Red Sox have played a full month of baseball, and some surprising trends have emerged this early in the season. There have been some bright spots, breakouts for promising young players, Rafael Devers has found his footing, and the outfield defense has been excellent. Here are the three biggest surprises from early in the Red Sox's season, from hot stars by unexpected players to unwelcome trends from last season.

4/26/25 Red Sox Fan-Favorite Tabbed As Potential Summer Trade Candidate. The Boston Red Sox already have had plenty of trade speculation about them this season. There also has been some pretty ridiculous trade speculation about Rafael Devers, but that pretty much can be just ignored. FanSided's Brian Burrows made a list of four players who could get traded this season and one that stood out on his list was Romy González. The righty was selected off waivers from the White Sox before the 2024 season and quickly found a home on the Red Sox bench.

4/25/25 MLB Notebook: Hall of Famer knows what Rafael Devers is going through in move to DH. Edgar Martinez was once a struggling third baseman who, against his wishes, was moved to full-time DH. Sound familiar?

4/24/25 Red Sox-Cubs Blockbuster Trade Idea Sends Rafael Devers to Chicago. A Chicago Cubs trade idea could land the Boston Red Sox’s $313 million All-Star slugger in a potential blockbuster move.

4/20/25 Craig Breslow explains not playing Rafael Devers at third despite brief vacancy. The Red Sox’ decision to not play Rafael Devers at third base when Alex Bregman was placed on the paternity list didn’t come as a surprise.

4/18/25 Latest Craig Breslow interview hints Rafael Devers' Red Sox fate is sealed. Despite his offseason position change, Boston Red Sox designated hitter Rafael Devers still takes ground balls to warm up before games. Devers was openly reluctant to move off third base after the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman, and the team just as loudly told him his resistance was futile. Bregman has started all but one of Boston's 20 games at third base, and when he was moved to the paternity list on April 16, Boston did not turn to its former, eight-year third baseman to start in his place.

4/17/25 Rafael Devers Will Not Fill In at 3B for Red Sox While Alex Bregman Is Away. Rafael Devers will not be filling in at third base for the Boston Red Sox while Alex Bregman is away from the team, according to Alex Cora.

4/15/25 Breaking down the Colorado Rockies strikeout problem. Believe it or not, with 179, the Boston Red Sox – led by Rafael Devers and former Rockie Trevor Story – have punched ten more tickets than the Rox at 169. Michael Toglia “leads” the way, and MLB, with 29 while Ryan McMahon is tied with his old left-side buddy at 22. Of course, the Red Sox balance it out a bit by hitting some home runs every once in a while so have managed to keep themselves afloat at 8-10 so far on the season. The Rockies are sinking at 3-13 and their best hope for change comes in the form of entirely unproven prospects, still figuring out how to handle the bright lights and facing the likes of Shohei Ohtani and these MVP-laden Los Angeles Dodgers for the first time.

4/15/25 Red Sox encouraged to make trade for promising Dodgers pitcher. The Boston Red Sox are off to an uneven start in 2025. Coming out of the gates at 8-10 is nothing new to this franchise recently, but this roster entered the season with high expectations. Of course, the headlines have been mainly focused on Rafael Devers' dismal start to the season, but the offense has not been this team's biggest problem. The starting pitching has not been up to par, and while much of that can be attributed to injuries, this franchise needs to bolster its rotation's depth.

4/10/25 Red Sox Give Injury Update For $90 Million Star Amid Trade Speculation, DFA Chatter. The elephant in the room for the Boston Red Sox is likely to linger for several more weeks. After moving Rafael Devers to designated hitter this season, the Red Sox put Masataka Yoshida in a near-impossible situation. Yoshida was the DH for the majority of last saeson, is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, and is not considered a strong defender in the outfield. Boston has an overcrowded outfield as it is, and top prospect Roman Anthony is still on his way to the big leagues.

4/09/25 Why Red Sox World Series Champ 'Kept Receipts' After Rafael Devers' Slump. Much was made about the hellacious slump Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers endured to begin the season. Like others, Will Middlebrooks, a 2013 Red Sox World Series champion and NESN analyst, saw that Devers' mechanics in the batter's box were out of whack and led to his 0-for-21 stretch with 15 strikeouts. It being the beginning of the season and Devers being involved in spring training drama put his struggles at the plate into an even bigger spotlight.

4/08/25 MLB power rankings roundup: Where Red Sox stand after streaky start. The Boston Red Sox' 2025 campaign is off to a streaky, albeit encouraging start. Boston dropped its next four games after beating the Texas Rangers on Opening Day. Rafael Devers' historic struggles highlighted the club's offensive woes out of the gate. The Red Sox have since won five of their last six games, including a sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals that included a walk-off victory and an 18-run outburst.

4/06/25 Watch Rafael Devers Smack His First Home Run Of Red Sox Season. Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora knows when Rafael Devers is going good at the plate. “That's Raffy's superpower is left-center,” Cora told reporters after the series opener last week against the Baltimore Orioles, per MassLive's Christopher Smith. Well, Cora and the Red Sox saw it Sunday in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals at Fenway Park.

4/03/25 Watch Alex Bregman Give Red Sox Lead With First Boston Home Run. Much like it was only a matter of time before Rafael Devers broke through, Alex Bregman was bound to hit his first Red Sox home run sooner rather than later. Well, the waiting game for the highly anticipated round-tripper finally came to an end Thursday afternoon. Bregman launched his first longball in a Boston uniform in the first inning of his team's series finale in Baltimore. Charlie Morton left a first-pitch sinker right over the heart of the plate, and the star third baseman made the Orioles starter pay by sending the baseball 397 feet into the left-field seats.
