5/17/25 Should Braves Consider Trading SP Bryce Elder?. Despite not re-signing Max Fried or Charlie Morton, the Atlanta Braves have proven to have plenty of starting pitcher depth this season. With Strider set to return next week, Atlanta has too many starting pitchers.

5/15/25 Yankees make Max Fried move ahead of Mets Subway Series. On Friday, they will be taking on the crosstown rival New York Mets in another highly-anticipated Subway Series. Adding to the intrigue is the fact that both New York clubs are among the wins leaders in all of baseball, with firm World Series aspirations.

5/13/25 New York Yankees Ace Part of Two-Man Race for AL Cy Young in First Poll. The New York Yankees pulled out all the stops earlier this offseason when they signed starting pitcher Max Fried to a massive eight-year, $218 million contract this offseason. It was an exciting contract at the time, but proved to be even more important of a move after the team lost Gerrit Cole for the year. Fried has been much more dominant than expected and has established himself near the top of the AL Cy Young Race, as proven by MLB.com's first Cy Young poll of the 2025 campaign. The Yankees finished in second place in the AL with 13 first-place votes.

5/13/25 Yankees trade idea for Diamondbacks $117 million ace is deadline pipe dream. At this point, there's no reason for the New York Yankees to limit themselves. The Yankees need more starting pitching if they want to be World Series contenders for the second year in a row. Max Fried and Carlos Rodon are a formidable one-two punch, but there's too much uncertainty in a Will Warren-Ryan Yarbrough tandem. It's never too early to look ahead to the Jul. 31 trade deadline, and the Yankees should cast as wide a net as possible.

5/13/25 Mariners head into matchup with the Yankees on losing streak. New York Yankees (24-17, first in the AL East) vs. Seattle Mariners (22-18, first in the AL West) Seattle; Tuesday, 9:40 p.m. EDT PITCHING PROBABLES: Yankees: Max Fried (6-0, 1.05 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 47 strikeouts); Mariners: Bryan Woo (4-1, 3.25 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 44 strikeouts) Yankees -137, Mariners +116; over/under is 7 runs BOTTOM LINE: The Seattle Mariners look to stop their four-game losing streak when they take on the New York Yankees. Seattle has a 12-10 record in home games and a 22-18 record overall. The Mariners have a 14-5 record in games when they record at least eight hits. New York has gone 11-9 in road games and 24-17 overall. The Yankees have a 4-8 record in games decided by one run.

5/12/25 Yankees are prime trade fit for projected $110 million Brewers ace, per insider. The New York Yankees' need for a starting pitcher at the trade deadline is pressing and obvious. The one-two punch of Max Fried and Carlos Rodon has kept the Yankees above the fray in the languishing American League East. It's clear, though, that the Yankees have the most World Series potential in this division.

5/10/25 Has Yankees New Ace Finally Unlocked Full Potential With Help From Coaching Staff?. The New York Yankees knew they were getting a talented player when they signed Max Fried away from the Atlanta Braves this past offseason. Eight-year, $218 million contracts aren't handed out regularly, especially to pitchers who are already 31 years old. It was the largest contract ever signed by a left-handed pitcher, a massive risk being taken by the franchise. Fried had some truly dominant stretches during his time with the Braves, making the All-Star team twice.

5/09/25 Yankees encouraged to acquire $70 million Astros superstar in midseason blockbuster. The number-one target for the New York Yankees at the 2025 trade deadline is clearly a starting pitcher. All season, the Yankees' rotation has been two starters short of excellence. Max Fried has done a phenomenal job taking over for Gerrit Cole in the ace role, but only Carlos Rodón and Clarke Schmidt are healthy and guaranteed rotation spots behind him.

5/09/25 How the Yankees electrified Max Fried's stuff from Braves days. The New York Yankees are 21-16 and two games up on the Boston Red Sox in the American League East. It's been a solid start for the Bombers on offense, but their pitching staff has a lot of question marks. Max Fried is not one of them, as the Yankees' new ace is 6-0 in his eight starts, with the team winning all eight games. Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake spoke with The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal about what has changed from Fried's time with the Atlanta Braves.

5/08/25 Yankees Ace Bolsters Early Cy Young Case with Yet Another Dominant Outing. When the New York Yankees signed Max Fried to the largest contract ever handed out to a left-handed pitcher, they were taking a pretty big risk. There was no denying that the former Atlanta Braves star had a long track record of success in the MLB, but recent injuries had sidelined him for large parts of the previous two seasons. For longtime Yankees' GM Brian Cashman though, it was a risk well worth taking with his team in the midst of a championship window. It's also a risk that has already begun to pay off in a massive way for New York, as Fried has gotten out to the best start of his career.

5/08/25 Yankees' Max Fried is the best pitcher in MLB. The New York Yankees are already reaping the rewards of their $215 million offseason investment. Max Fried came to the Bronx on an eight-year deal worth that much, and he's been the best pitcher in MLB so far this season. On Wednesday night, Fried allowed just one run (a Jackson Merrill solo homer) in seven sharp innings. The Yankees didn't score early but scored enough late to win.

5/07/25 Yankees win in a walk-off against Padres at the Stadium. The Yankees have now won all eight of Max Fried's starts this season.

5/06/25 Yankees could replace Devin Williams with MLB saves leader as ERA tops 10. The New York Yankees have a lot to celebrate about their latest blockbuster offseason, but some of the moves haven't worked out. Signing Max Fried appears to have been invaluable as he's filled in admirably for the loss of franchise ace Gerrit Cole. After his latest appearance on Monday against the San Diego Padres, Williams now has a 10.03 ERA across 14 games this season and it might be time to look into acquiring a new closer.

5/05/25 Yankees insider reveals next pitcher call-up during 'ugly' Will Warren performance. The New York Yankees are off to an uneven 19-15 start. While the Bronx Bombers are at least two games up on everyone in the American League East, this squad has not looked like the championship-caliber roster it was expected to be so far. Much of that has to do with the inconsistencies in the starting pitching rotation. Newest ace Max Fried has been a Cy Young frontrunner so far with a 6-0 record and a staggering 1.01 ERA.

5/04/25 Yankees' Max Fried using power of illusion to remain undefeated: 'He's a unicorn'. Max Fried, the industry's top pick-off artist, staring down the Rays' Jose Caballero, the American League's leading base stealer in 2024. The intentions were clear: Caballero was waiting for the right moment to take off. Fried had a plan to outsmart him. Working from the stretch position, the Yankees' hurler began his delivery, his right knee lifted to hip height.

5/02/25 Former Braves Ace Pitching Out of His Mind For New York Yankees. Former Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried has been electric for the New York Yankees out of the gate. Following a shaky first outing against the Milwaukee Brewers, Fried has allowed more than one run just once. In six starts, Fried is 5-0 with a 1.19 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings pitched.

5/02/25 Yankees urged to trade for $18 million Opening Day starter from AL East rival. For the first-place New York Yankees, starting pitching still appears to be the biggest question mark. Max Fried has been every bit the ace the Yankees could have hoped he'd be, while Carlos Rodón is on a roll in his last three starts. It's still early in the season, so the Yankees can allow Warren a bit more runway and wait for Marcus Stroman and Luis Gil to get healthy before making decisions.
