After a horrendous 2023 campaign with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe splitting time under center, the New England Patriots knew that they had to take a shot on a new quarterback with the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. With that selection, the Patriots drafted North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, and after sitting behind Jacoby Brissett for the first five weeks of the season, the rookie was the starter the rest of the way. In 13 games, Maye completed 66.6% of his passes for 2,276 yards with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing for another 421 yards and two touchdowns. The Patriots sent two rookie quarterbacks to the Pro Bowl as alternates in a four-year span. Mac Jones got the nod in 2021 after 22 touchdowns and a playoff berth.
