7/01/25 Why Mattison Could Become Key Under-the-Radar Pick-Up. Alexander Mattison's one-year, $1.3 million deal ranks among Miami's cheapest offseason moves, yet the seventh-year back may help solve one of the offense's biggest flaws: short-yardage inconsistency. While the offense as a whole regressed last season, dropping from second to 23rd in yards per play, short-yardage struggles have been a steady issue under Mike McDaniel. At 5-11 and 220 pounds, Mattison brings a more physical profile than any back Miami rostered in 2024. Mattison, a 2019 third-round pick by the Vikings, has topped 130 rushing attempts in three of the past four seasons, including last year with the Raiders.

6/12/25 Raiders' best backup for Ashton Jeanty is someone fans completely forgot about. After having the league's worst rushing attack last season, running back was an obvious need for the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason. The prophecy tying them to Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty in the draft paid off with the sixth overall pick, and the rookie will clearly be the workhorse back in Chip Kelly's offense. The Raiders started to remodel their running back depth chart during free agency, swapping Alexander Mattison for Raheem Mostert.

5/18/25 Raiders predicted to cut ties with recent draft pick before regular season. The Las Vegas Raiders had one of the worst offenses in the league last season, and while the passing attack got a lot of attention, the running game was even worse. Las Vegas averaged 79.8 yards on the ground per game in 2024, which was the worst rate in the league last year by 12 yards per game (the New York Jets averaged 91.8). This offseason, the Raiders made massive changes to their running back room, allowing Alexander Mattison to leave for a new deal with the Miami Dolphins while Ameer Abdullah, who finished the year with Las Vegas, is still unsigned in free agency.

3/28/25 The Many Sides of New Dolphins Running Back Alexander Mattison. A running back who describes his running style as “downhill, fast and physical” has really no choice in the NFL but to play with a certain mentality. Alexander Mattison, the latest free agent addition to the Miami Dolphins running back group, understands that. “I definitely am not an aggressive person,” Mattison said in his first chance to speak with Dolphins reporters after his signing. In fact, Mattison at his core seems to be all about humanity, largely based on his own experiences.

3/23/25 Raiders predicted to solve running back woes by signing $8 million breakout star. The Las Vegas Raiders had an awful run game last season and still have a giant hole at the position entering the third week of free agency. Las Vegas' leading rusher from 2024, Alexander Mattison, remains available on the open market and so far the Raiders have only signed Raheem Mostert, who is set to turn 33 this year and is hardly a reliable starting option. Mostert joins a running backs room that also includes Sincere McCormick, Zamir White and Dylan Laube.
