4/30/25 Patriots' Embattled Playmaker Put on Notice After NFL Draft. The New England Patriots made it clear what they think of Rhamondre Stevenson in the NFL Draft when they selected Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson in the second round. Stevenson struggled mightily in 2024, rushing for 801 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.9 yards per carry. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel hinted that his team would be addressing the running back position in the draft, and that's exactly what they did.

4/24/25 NFL Rumors: Patriots Targeting These Types Of Players In Draft. There has been so much talk about what the New England Patriots will do with the fourth overall pick Thursday night in Green Bay. The Athletic's Chad Graff provided potential answers to that question in a column published Thursday morning. Graff revealed league sources expect the Patriots to select players at both running back and defensive tackle “as early as Round 3” this weekend. According to Graff, New England is looking for a “speedy complement” to Rhamondre Stevenson, who currently sits atop the RB depth chart in Foxboro, Mass. The Patriots insider identified RJ Harvey, Trevor Etienne, Bhayshul Tuten, Brashard Smith and Jaydon Blue as potential targets.

4/20/25 Patriots Linked to Intriguing RB Trade. The New England Patriots don't have much reason to be entirely confident in their backfield, as the running back tandem of Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson was not great in 2024. Stevenson fumbled seven times this past season, and Gibson was not the receiving threat that he had previously been during his time with the Washington Commanders. Of course, the Patriots' shoddy offensive line may have had a whole lot to do with their shaky rushing attack, but there is also very little doubt that New England can use a boost at the halfback position.

4/13/25 Patriots Connected to Explosive Texas RB. The New England Patriots definitely need to add some weapons in the NFL Draft, and while wide receiver is the obvious position they must address, they could also use some help in the backfield. The tandem of Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson was very disappointing in 2024, as Stevenson fumbled seven times and Gibson failed to produce much as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, an area in which he excelled during his time with the Washington Commanders. As a result, the Patriots may look to add a running back later this month, and head coach Mike Vrabel has even said that is an area they may target in the draft.

4/08/25 Patriots named potential fit for 2,251-yard rusher. The New England Patriots' running game has been somewhat underwhelming the past few seasons, with starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson failing to surpass 1,000 rushing yards the past two years. New England will need more from the running game if it wants to contend for the playoffs this upcoming season. The Patriots don't need to add a No. 1 running back, but the team could use more help to give Stevenson a few more plays off.

4/03/25 Perry: Best fits for Patriots at running back in 2025 NFL Draft. Editor's Note: In the lead-up to the 2025 NFL Draft, Phil Perry is identifying the best fits for the Patriots at each position based on the traits that Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf value as well as intel from coaches and scouts. Mike Vrabel didn't beat around the bush. When asked about potentially adding to his running back room during this week's annual league meeting, he noted that was a possibility in the draft. The Patriots already have Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson on the roster, but Vrabel suggested they could bring aboard another.

3/21/25 Patriots insider reveals why team would swap out of No. 4 NFL Draft pick. Feature running back Rhamondre Stevenson was benched last season after coughing up seven fumbles and averaged less than four yards per carry. Finally, the Patriots receiving core didn't have a single player tally over 700 yards last season, and, despite taking some big swings and free agency, failed to land anyone bigger than journeyman Mac Hollins.

2/25/25 Patriots coach has intriguing perspective on Rhamondre Stevenson's fumbling woes. Rhamondre Stevenson's fumbling woes were well-documented in 2024. The seven fumbles were the most for a running back since 2020 and Stevenson was only the fourth back since 2010 with that many in a single season. Given how similar schemes and talent can be across the NFL, Vrabel made the case that the key to victory is mastering details, fundamentals, and playing with great effort to protect the ballcarrier. To illustrate his point, Vrabel pointed to the circumstances surrounding Stevenson's fumbles.

2/24/25 Ashton Jeanty To Patriots? Why NFL Draft Expert Would 'Love' Scenario. Running back is far down the list of needs for the New England Patriots this offseason. They already have two firmly entrenched on the depth chart in Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson. But seven fumbles from Stevenson, who signed a four-year, $36 million contract extension with the Patriots last offseason, overshadowed a campaign in which he ran for 801 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns in 15 games. But perhaps Stevenson's fumbling woes could push Mike Vrabel and the Patriots to find a new lead back. And if that's the case, could New England pull the trigger on drafting standout Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty? It's a scenario ESPN draft expert Matt Miller actually thinks is

2/23/25 Patriots Could Make Surprise RB Trade. The New England Patriots need upgrades all over the roster this offseason, and while their primary areas of need are at wide receiver and along the offensive line, they also have some other positions they could stand to improve. One of them is running back, as the tandem of Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson was pretty disappointing this past season. Actually, Gibson was solid in his secondary role, but Stevenson struggled, rushing for 801 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 3.9 yards per carry. The Patriots signed Stevenson to a three-year extension last offseason, so you wouldn't think he would be going anywhere, but Michael DeVito of Musket Fire has named the halfback one of the team's trade candidates entering the offseason.

2/18/25 Do Pats need more bang for their buck in RB room? Curran, Perry discuss. Much has been made about the New England Patriots' glaring needs at wide receiver and along the offensive line. Running back is a sneaky offseason priority for the Patriots, as our Tom E. Curran explained in his 2025 roster reset series. With Rhamondre Stevenson coming off back-to-back disappointing campaigns, Curran believes it's time to consider a change. "I think the Patriots should look at trading Rhamondre Stevenson and his modest-but-still-significant contract to a team that could better use him," Curran said on the latest episode of the Patriots Talk Podcast.

2/17/25 Patriots Projected to Land Explosive RB. While the New England Patriots have much more dire of a need at wide receiver than running back, it wouldn't hurt the Patriots to see which halfbacks are available this offseason. The tandem of Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson is not exactly awe-inspiring, and while Stevenson's struggles in particular almost surely have a lot to do with the offensive line, New England could stand to add a more explosive option. The Pats could look to allocate some of their massive cap space toward a running back in free agency, but it seems more likely the Patriots will rely on the NFL Draft if they are indeed going to address their backfield.

2/08/25 Patriots Linked to Popular RB in Major Steal. The New England Patriots don't "need" to prioritize the running back position this offseason. Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to be the team's starter again entering the 2025 season. No one should be expecting New England to go out and bring in a key free agent or draft a back in the first few rounds. Ian Valentino of AtoZ Sports has released a new seven-round mock draft.

1/10/25 Patriots Could Part Ways With Disappointing RB. The New England Patriots made a couple of moves in an attempt to fortify their backfield last offseason, signing Rhamondre Stevenson to an extension and adding Antonio Gibson in free agency. Neither move really paid any sort of dividends, as the Patriots' rushing attack was more spearheaded by quarterback Drake Maye than either of the two running backs.

1/07/25 2025 New England Patriots Offseason Primer. The Patriots were busy last offseason extending and re-signing a large group of their own players including players like Rhamondre Stevenson and Christian Barmore who would've been headed to free agency this offseason. Certainly the group of internal free agents features some key contributors of recent years like Jonathan Jones and Deatrich Wise, but none should require the kind of large long-term pacts that the team handed out last year, leaving plenty of cap space to attack external free agency with.

12/28/24 Key Patriots Playmaker Receives Demotion After Costly Mistake. FOXBORO, Mass. — Rhamondre Stevenson has lost the starting job in the Patriots backfield. Well, that will be the case when the New England Patriots host the Los Angeles Chargers at least. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed running back Antonio Gibson would start over Stevenson when he appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub's pregame show. Stevenson's demotion follows a Week 16 loss to the Buffalo Bills in which the running back lost a costly second-half fumble. Stevenson has fumbled seven times this season, which marks the most in the league. This is a breaking news story and will be updated. Story continues below advertisement

12/27/24 Patriots Should Aggressively Pursue Cowboys' Emerging Star. The New England Patriots ' biggest needs are on the offensive side of the ball, and when you think about the team's most prominent holes, you'll probably instantly single out the receiving corps and the offensive line . However, the Patriots also have a fairly significant need in another key area: running back. New England signed Rhamondre Stevenson to an extension last offseason and also signed Antonio Gibson in free agency, but neither move has worked out too well in 2024. With all of the cap room the Pats are slated to have heading into free agency, they could certainly afford to add another halfback, and one name is emerging as a very obvious fit: Dallas Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle.

12/26/24 3 Overlooked Roster Needs for the Patriots. The NFL offseason can't get here soon enough for the New England Patriots, who will be looking to fill a plethora of needs up and down their roster. Here are three overlooked issues for New England going into free agency. The Pats signed Rhamondre Stevenson to a contract extension last offseason, but he hasn't exactly lived up to expectations in 2024, rushing for 800 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging just 3.9 yards per carry. Stevenson has also had severe issues with ball security this year, fumbling seven times.
