All 32 NFL teams have crazy roster competitions at the end of the summer, and the New Orleans Saints will be no exception. At this point in the calendar, teams are still in the process of adding players, be they straggling veteran free agents or inexperienced long shots. The Saints just made one intriguing veteran signing in their backfield--Cam Akers, a five-year NFL veteran and a former Super Bowl champion with the Los Angeles Rams. 6/18/25	Cam Akers: From a Record Broken at the Independence Bowl to the New Orleans Saints Backfield. Back in the 2017 Independence Bowl, it was the Florida State Seminoles against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Shreveport. The game took place on December 27th, with a 12:30pm local kickoff. The Florida State Seminoles and Rams have had a history with players such as Cam Akers, who they won a Super Bowl with. The game will be hosted in Arizona because of wildfires in the Los Angeles area, the NFL announced Thursday. Minnesota listed running back Cam Akers (illness) and Taki Taimani (ankle) as questionable. Akers was added to the injury report Saturday. Cam Akers reached down in front of him to scoop a sinking pass from Sam Darnold, bringing it in to his body as he tumbled backwards. Akers' late catch, which came with less than two minutes left in the game on a third-and-2 pass, sealed a 27-25 win for the Vikings over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon in a game at U.S. Bank Stadium that got tight late. “I'm blessed,” Akers said. “On my journey from where I've come from, to be able to be in there, crunch time, fourth quarter, the coaches trust me, the team trusts me,” Akers said.
