3/13 Jimmy Gobble (P-COL) Gobble suffered a left groin strain that he suffered Thursday when he overstrided on a pitch. He said the course of treatment for now is ice and rest.

3/13 Rafael Betancourt (P-COL) Betancourt felt good after throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session yesterday. He will throw another one tomorrow before getting in front of hitters in a simulated game or batting practice sometime next week. "I feel very good," Betancourt said. "After how I felt last week, it's a lot different. We'll see how it feels Sunday."

3/13 Huston Street (P-COL) Street threw 16 pitches in the bullpen, four more on the mound and then a 20-pitch session against hitters yesterday and reported no problems with his shoulder. "I was hitting spots and getting good life on the ball," Street said. "It was by far the heaviest workload and by far the best results."

3/13 Hong-Chih Kuo (P-LAD) Hong-Chih Kuo said he "almost cried" when he told the Dodgers training staff that his elbow was sore again, and the news didn't do manager Joe Torre any good, either. Torre had to scratch Kuo from the start of his life Saturday night at 10 p.m. PT, a chance to pitch one inning in front of his mother against an All-Star team from his native Taiwan. Kuo's injury was revealed only moments after Friday's exhibition game was rained out, back-to-back blows to a goodwill series that had started so upbeat. But Kuo's news, unlike the rainout, could impact the roster and the season, especially with the continued absence of fellow setup man Ronald Belisario, indefinitely stuck in Venezuela with visa problems.

3/13 Derrek Lee (1B-CHC) Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Brewers because of a bruise on the top of his left foot. His status was day-to-day. Lee fouled a ball off his foot in the fourth inning on Wednesday in the Cubs' game against the San Francisco Giants. He could be back in the lineup as early as Saturday, Cubs manager Lou Piniella said.

3/12 Casey Fien (P-TOR) Fien was optioned to AAA.

3/12 Brad Mills (P-TOR) Mills was optioned to AAA.

3/12 Kyle Drabek (P-TOR) Drabek was assigned to Toronto's minor league camp. He is expected to begin the season at either AA or AAA.

3/12 Scot Shields (P-LAA) Shields pitched in his first game since undergoing surgery on June 16 to repair the patella tendon in his left knee. He last appeared in a game on May 26. He gave up a single to A.J. Pierzynski on his first pitch today, then he regrouped to throw a scoreless inning. He says that he's not even thinking about his knee.

3/12 Fausto Carmona (P-CLE) Carmona had good command while pitching three scoreless innings and giving up only one hit in Cactus League activity today.
