12/08/02The Braves offered arbitration to first baseman Julio Franco.
10/28/02Franco filed for free agency today.
8/22/02The right-handed Franco has raised his average to .309 when playing first base; he is hitting .341 since June 15. However, he is still in a platoon situation with Matt Franco.
6/08/02Franco got a routine night off last night. He will be back in the lineup tonight in Texas.
6/07/02Julio Franco's first-inning RBI on a ground out gave the Braves first baseman 1,000 for his career. . . .
6/06/02Franco has now hit in 9 straight games and in less than 3 weeks has raised his batting average almost 100 points to .261. We are not saying that he is the all star player he once was but if this keeps up, he might be a good mid-season addition to your team. He has become the everyday first baseman.
6/01/02Suddenly Franco is the hottest hitter for the Braves. Last night against the reds, he had his 4th straight multi hit game and is currently on a 10-22 tear.
5/08/02Franco has now gone 55 at bats without an RBI this season....If he is on your fantasy team, it would probably be wise to take him out of your line up. (Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that out.) Why he is still playing with the Braves is a big question also.
4/30/02Franco is having the worst start of his career hitting only .149. In an effort to change this, he is changing his uniform number from 4 to 23......OK, I guess his owners will be happy about this....?
4/23/02Franco has yet to get an RBI this season in 44 at bats and is still batting below .200. Maybe his age is starting to catch up to him.
4/17/02Franco will be starting at first base if the ailing Gary Sheffield is unable to go tonight. B.J. Surhoff, the Braves regular first baseman will be taking Sheffield's job in right field.
4/13/02The idea of platooning Franco at first has apparantly been scrapped. He has had only a few at bats and it looks like B.J. Surhoff is the everyday first baseman for the Braves.
3/19/02Franco leads the braves this spring in RBI with 9 and hitting with a .341 average. The braves still intend on having him share 1st base time with Wes Helms when the season starts.
12/17/01Franco signed a minor-league contract with the Braves today and has been invited to spring training. He will probably not see much playing time at first base this year as Wes Helms will get the bulk of the duties there this season.
12/08/01The Braves offered salary arbitration to Franco yesterday. He has until December 19 to accept or reject the offer.
11/06/01Franco filed for free agency yesterday.
10/13/01Franco injured his elbow in the final game against the Astros. X-rays taken were negative and he is expected to be ready for the NLCS.
9/03/01The 43-year old Franco has played first base for the Braves since he arrived and may continue to get the majority of at-bats there as long as he is hitting.
8/31/01Just because he hasn't played in the majors since 1997, the Braves were not deterred and picked up Franco today from the Mexican league. He will join the team Saturday.
