6/02/10Lopez was lifted from the game with a bruised right thumb. He suffered the injury on a hard-hit grounder from Reds center fielder Drew Stubbs in the top of the fifth frame. Lopez bobbled the ball before throwing late to first. "He hit it good," Lopez said. "I was just trying to get in front of it and trying to block it. That was it. I caught a bad bounce and it hit me." Both Lopez and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said they would wait until Wednesday to determine Lopez's status. "The good news is it's not broken," Lopez said. "X-rays are negative. We'll see how I wake up tomorrow."
5/18/10Felipe Lopez was added to the active roster on Monday after missing three weeks due to a strained right elbow. He was immediately inserted into the lineup, starting at shortstop and batting leadoff. Tyler Greene was optioned to Triple-A Memphis to make room for Lopez on the roster. Lopez did not go on a Minor League rehabilitation assignment. "I wasn't playing him until he was cleared to play short," manager Tony La Russa said. "He could have played second a few days ago." In a way, Lopez will actually fill in for two players. He will likely play extensively at shortstop in place of Ryan, who has slumped badly for most of the season. But he also has a chance to hit leadoff regularly, filling the role that has been mostly occupied by Skip Schumaker for the past two years
5/18/10Lopez was activated from the DL Monday and batted leadoff for the Cardinals.
5/17/10Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said on Saturday that he anticipates infielder Felipe Lopez could be activated as soon as Monday. Earlier this week, manager Tony La Russa had sounded a cautious tone regarding Lopez, but Mozeliak said that things have gone well and Lopez's return to active duty could be very soon.
5/14/10The Cardinals remain hopeful that Felipe Lopez can be activated from the disabled list early next week, but manager Tony La Russa cautioned on Thursday that it still might not be that soon. Lopez has been sidelined for 2 1/2 weeks with a right elbow strain. Lopez could help as a pinch-hitter now, but his defensive versatility means that the club does not want to activate him unless he can play defense as well. "The key is, it is his throwing arm," La Russa said. "And when he comes back, we want to have a good feeling, like he's back. He keeps stepping up what he's doing. But if at some point there's a setback, a little bit even, he gets stiff, we back it off a day or two. But right now, so far, now it's good."
5/10/10Infielder Felipe Lopez (strained right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 26 and is hopeful of returning to the lineup soon. He is scheduled to have the elbow examined on Monday in St. Louis. Lopez has just started swinging the bat in light workouts. "I've been hitting a lot," Lopez said. "It feels great and I'm tired of sitting back and watching. It seems like a long time, but it could be worse. I could be playing through the pain and then missing four months, that's the way I look at it. I'm anxious to get back out there." Cards manager Tony La Russa is taking a cautious but optimistic approach with Lopez. "He's making progress," La Russa opined. "I think he's making progress, but he really hasn't tested it or stretched it out. He's been hitting on one side a little bit left-handed. He has not been stressing it, but he is doing good. I know they've got a plan for him, we're patiently impatient."
5/03/10Felipe Lopez hopes to be activated from the 15-day disabled list when he's eligible on May 11, but even he acknowledges that he probably won't be able to do much throwing when that time comes. Lopez is sidelined with a right elbow strain, and at present, he's limited to taking ground balls. But he said that swinging a bat is no trouble for his elbow, so when the 15 days end, he should be able to pinch-hit. Lopez said Friday that the injury is getting better as time goes by. "It feels good," he said. However, Lopez will not even play light catch until two weeks are up from when he was placed on the DL. So it's highly unlikely that he'll be able to play in the field at that time. If he is in fact activated on the first possible day, he almost certainly will only be able to pinch-hit.
4/26/10 The Cardinals placed infielder Felipe Lopez on the 15-day disabled list on Monday due to a right elbow injury, recalling infielder Tyler Greene from Triple-A Memphis to take his place. St. Louis also sent outfielder Allen Craig to Memphis and recalled outfielder Jon Jay.
4/26/10 SAN FRANCISCO -- Cardinals infielder Felipe Lopez, who has been struggling with soreness in his right elbow for more than a week, was scratched from Sunday's original lineup about 90 minutes before St. Louis' game against the Giants. Lopez missed two games with the injury before returning as a pinch-hitter in Friday night's 4-1 loss to the Giants. He went 2-for-4 in Saturday's 2-0 setback.
4/24/10Lopez was given an extra day to rest his sore right elbow. He hasn’t played since Tuesday.
4/12/10For the first time since 2008, Felipe Lopez started a game at shortstop, replacing Brendan Ryan in the Cardinals' lineup Saturday. After entering the game at shortstop in the seventh inning Friday night, Lopez got the starting nod Saturday in place of Ryan, who batted .067 (1-for-15) in the team's first four games. Last year, Lopez played second base for Arizona and Milwaukee. He last started at shortstop two seasons ago when he was in his first stint with the Cardinals. "I've played that position all my life," he said.

10/31/08Lopez filed for free agency on Thursday.
8/25/08Lopez, who was acquired on Aug. 6, has given St. Louis manager Tony La Russa another versatile player who can be slotted in at a variety of positions as a switch-hitter. Lopez, who got another start at second base on Saturday, also can play shortstop, third base or the outfield. The fresh start seems to have rejuvenated Lopez, who hit .326 in his first 14 games as a Cardinal.
8/07/08A day after the Cardinals signed him to a Major League contract, Felipe Lopez started Wednesday's game in left field. Released by the Washington Nationals on July 31, Lopez sported No. 22 for the Cardinals and made his seventh start of the year in left. Although Lopez primarily plays the infield, manager Tony La Russa wanted to exploit the matchup against Los Angeles Dodgers starter Derek Lowe. "We want to get an extra left-hand hitter in there against Mr. Lowe, and we've already got one at second and short," La Russa said, referring to Adam Kennedy and Cesar Izturis.
8/07/08Infielder Felipe Lopez, released by the Washington Nationals last week, signed a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night. 8/07/04Lopez is hitting .400 with two home runs and four RBI in his last 10 games. Lopez's hot streak has been one on the reasons Barry Larkin has been slow to return to the lineup from a strained oblique.
