7/31/10The Cardinals acquired Westbrook as part of a three-team trade with Cleveland and San Diego. “I’m excited to go to a club that’s contending for a playoff spot and pitch in some meaningful ballgames,” Westbrook said. “That’s why you play the game, to get a chance to play in the playoffs and I look forward to doing that.”
7/27/10Westbrook (6-7, 4.65 ERA) started the eighth inning with a two-hitter and a 2-1 lead against the Yankees yesterday, but gave up a single and a home run. Game over: the Yankees beat the Indians, 3-2.
7/22/10Trade bait Westbrook (6-6, 4.74 ERA) allowed four runs, six hits, and five walks in six frames to take the loss in yesterday's 6-0 shutout defeat in Minnesota.
7/17/10Westbrook (6-5, 4.67 ERA) allowed two runs on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings to beat the Tigers yesterday, 8-2.
7/09/10Westbrook (5-5, 4.75 ERA) gave up three HR, including a couple long two-run shots by Carl Crawford, in the Indians' 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay yesterday. The loss broke Westbrook's five-game winning streak against the Rays dating back to 2005. In all that time, Crawford had never hit a homer against him.
6/29/10Westbrook (5-4, 4.69 ERA) with the help of four relievers held the Blue Jays scoreless after the third batter of the game. He allowed the one run on six hits in six-plus IP. The Indians won, 2-1.
6/18/10The Mets hit Westbrook (4-4, 4.76 ERA) hard yesterday, getting 11 hits and five earned runs over seven innings as the Indians fell to the Mets, 6-4. Westbrook might not have yielded any runs in the first inning if a tailor-made pickoff play had worked - like it should have. Westbrook had the Mets’ Jose Reyes nailed, but the (catchable) ball was dropped on his throw.
6/12/10Westbrook (4-3, 4.62 ERA) scattered seven hits over 7 1/3 IP in his 113-pitch outing, walking two and striking out five Nationals' batters in yesterday's 7-2 win. He has logged seven innings in three of his past four starts.
6/06/10Westbrook went 4 2/3 innings against the White Sox today, giving up seven hits and six earned runs. He did not receive a decision.
6/01/10Westbrook (3-3) gave up one run on five hits and a walk over 7 2-3 innings and picked up the win in tonight's 3-2 victory over the Tigers. He had given up a combined nine runs in his two previous starts.
5/26/10Westbrook (2-3, 4.78 ERA) gave up five runs to the White Sox today, allowing six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over seven innings. The White Sox beat the Indians, 5-4. He cruised the first time through the Sox lineup, but their bats caught up to him the second time around. He surrendered three runs to them in the fourth inning.
5/16/10Westbrook (2-2) tossed a complete game against the Orioles, giving up one run on nine hits and one walk with eight strikeouts. The Indians won today, 5-1. He picked up two wins this week.
5/12/10Westbrook pitched six yeoman-like innings against the Royals yesterday, and picked up his first win since his June, 2008 reconstructive right elbow surgery.
5/05/10Westbrook yielded four runs (three earned) on five hits and five walks over 3-2/3 IP Tuesday in a no-decision against the Blue Jays. He has gone winless in six starts this season, and he carries an ERA of 5.74 and a WHIP of 1.69.
4/29/10Westbrook (0-2, 5.53 ERA over five starts) allowed three runs and four hits over six innings to the Angels yesterday. The Angels won, 4-3. He is seeking first victory since undergoing Tommy John surgery on June 12, 2008.
4/24/10Westbrook (0-2) used his sinker to induce a couple double plays in Oakland last night, but his Tribe got ambushed anyway. He took the loss in the 10-0 defeat to the Athletics after giving up four runs on eight hits and one walk.
4/17/10In a no-decision today, Westbrook allowed only two earned runs on five hits over seven innings in the Indians' 3-2 win over the White Sox. He had three walks and two strikeouts.

4/05/10In his opening day start for the Indians, Westbrook tied a club record with four wild pitches. He also hit Carlos Quentin twice, walked four batters, and allowed five runs and five hits against the White Sox in his first Major League start since May 28, 2008. He has a tough matchup at the end of the week at Detroit against ace Justin Verlander.
3/22/10Westbrook gave up one run on six hits in 4 2-3 exhibition innings yesterday. He did not walk a batter and had three strikeouts. He has not pitched in a Major League game since May 2008 because of elbow problems.
3/16/10In his third spring outing, Westbrook pitched almost perfectly for three innings before giving up a run in his fourth and final inning. He got out of the inning on a ground-ball double play - a good sign for the sinkerball hurler.
3/08/10Westbrook allowed a run and three walks against AZ in 1/2-3 IP in his first game against major-league hitters since May 2008. He said that he felt strong and was encouraged by his first outing since undergoing Tommy John surgery. He allowed a single, hit a batter and struck out one batter in today's exhibition game.
2/23/10Westbrook had his first official bullpen session of the spring and came out of it pain-free. He expects to take the ball on Opening Day for the Indians.

9/22/09After almost six weeks of no throwing activities, Westbrook will visit with the Indians’ medical staff tomorrow. He hopes to get cleared so that he can begin a throwing program that will allow him to pitch winter ball.
8/11/09Dr. Lewis Yokum examined Westbrook's surgically repaired arm and told him to stop his rehab for six weeks. Yocum found no structural damage, but Westbrook has residue scar tissue in the elbow that is causing soreness. Rest will help dissipate the tissue. Wait until next year, folks.
8/10/09Westbrook (DL: Tommy John surgery) had his Sunday rehab start canceled because he experienced arm soreness. Dr. Lewis Yokum will examine his arm in Los Angeles this week to determine if he should continue his rehab.
8/07/09Westbrook (DL: Tommy John surgery) said that he felt fine after his two-inning rehab outing for Double-A Akron. He pitched a bullpen session with Indians' head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff yesterday. He will make his next rehab start for Akron on Sunday.

6/29/09Westbrook (DL: Tommy John surgery) reports that his right elbow is feeling better. He might resume baseball activities at the end of the week.
6/20/09Indians head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said that Westbrook has gone on a 14-day no-throw plan, pushing back his scheduled return to the Tribe's rotation. Soloff said, "We were hoping that he'd be (back) late June or early July. Now it may be late July or early August." Westbrook underwent ulnar collateral ligament surgery (Tommy John surgery) in June 2008 on his right elbow. He received a full examination in Cleveland last week and everything appeared structurally intact. He has a 63-64 lifetime record with a 4.31 ERA in nine big league seasons.
6/18/09Elbow soreness has pushed back Westbrook's timetable for a return from Tommy John surgery to an unspecified time. The team had scheduled him to make his third rehab start Wednesday for Triple-A Columbus. Elbow soreness forced the Indians to scratch him from that start, and then to scrap the backup bullpen session. He will have to wait to see what happens after rest and treatment.

6/14/09Westbrook (DL: Tommy John surgery) has thrown seven scoreless innings for Double-A Akron in two rehab starts. He said, "The day of [my starts], my arm doesn't feel as alive as I'd like. There's definitely some soreness the day after (Editor's note: normal reaction). But I'm throwing the ball well. It's a "feel" thing right now. Hopefully I'll get to a point where I get that pop and alive feeling like I once had." He will pitch five innings Wednesday, probably for Triple-A Columbus.
6/13/09Westbrook (DL: Tommy John surgery) pitched four scoreless innings in a rehab start for Double-A Akron against Portland yesterday. The Indians expect him to rejoin the rotation late this month.
6/10/09Westbrook (DL: Tommy John surgery) will pitch a four-inning rehab game for Class AA Akron on Thursday, and then go to Class AAA Columbus for another rehab start. The Indians want Westbrook to build his pitch count to 100 before he rejoins their rotation, which might happen later this month. He is throwing at his normal velocity (90 mph to 92 mph), and can locate his fastball. He has had difficulty throwing his off-speed pitches for strikes, but expects to find his command before returning to Cleveland.
6/07/09Westbrook pitched three scoreless innings in his first rehab start at Double-A Akron. He allowed one hit and one walk over three innings (39 pitches). He struck out one, got five outs on ground balls and three on fly balls. He had reconstructive surgery on his right elbow last June 12.
3/31/09Westbrook said that he felt great after he threw a 60-pitch bullpen of nothing but fastballs, preceded by a 15-pitch session off flat ground in which he used his curveball and changeup. He will remain in Goodyear for extended Spring Training and continue to throw two bullpens a week, eventually progressing to facing live hitters. If all goes according to plan, he will go out on a rehab assignment sometime in May, with an eye on a mid- or late-June return to the Majors.
3/13/09Westbrook threw off a mound and reported no problems. "I felt great," Westbrook said. "[My pitches] were all over the place, but that's not my main concern right now. My main concern is my health, and I've been really fortunate [to have no major setbacks yet]. I'm super excited about the way I'm feeling."
9/07/08Westbrook underwent successful surgery on his hip on Friday. He is scheduled to return from Tommy John surgery in the middle of the 2009 season.
7/24/08Westbrook is recovering well from Tommy John surgery, but is not expected to return to the majors until the middle of the 2009 season. "It's stable," Westbrook said of his elbow. "I'm pleased with it. It's still a little achy and a little sore. Now it's a matter of letting it heal and doing some rehab."
6/07/08Westbrook will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow; he will miss the remainder of the 2008 season, and probably Spring Training, 2009.

5/10/08Westbrook had his first (35-pitch) bullpen session since landing on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left intercostal muscle on April 22. He said afterwards, "I felt great. It's just a matter of getting my arm in shape." He will have another bullpen session, around 50 pitches, today or tomorrow. He did not speculate on when he will return. He had gone 1-2 with a 2.73 ERA in four starts before going on the DL.
4/27/08Westbrook will not pitch for at least a month because of a strained lower back muscle. The Indians initially thought he would only miss two starts. He received a cortisone shot on Friday.
4/22/08The Cleveland Indians placed Westbrook on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Sunday, April 20th with a left intercostal strain. Westbrook has made 4 starts and has gone 1-2 with a 2.73 ERA. He has had five stints on the DL.
4/15/08Westbrook allowed one earned run over 6 1/3 innings against the Red Sox last night, but did not get the decision. He struck out five and walked three. If "closer" Joe Borowski did not falter so incredibly, Westbrook would have won his second game. He has an ERA of 2.38.

3/02/08Westbrook pitched a 1-2-3 first inning, throwing nothing but sinkers, before heading to the bullpen to throw a simulated inning so he could reach his 25-pitch limit. He said, "My arm felt good. That’s what I was looking for." He had missed his start Thursday against the Astros in the Tribe's Grapefruit League opener because of soreness in his throwing arm.
2/29/08Westbrook tested his throwing arm yesterday and reported no ill effects from a 48-pitch session. He said, "I felt strong. This (arm soreness) is something that I get just about every year, and it lasts until about the middle of spring training."
2/27/08The Indians scratched Westbrook from his scheduled start Thursday against the Astros in the Tribe's Grapefruit League opener because of soreness in his throwing arm.
10/22/07In losing to the Red Sox in the seventh game of the ALCS, Westbrook gave the Indians a quality start despite giving up nine hits in six innings. The Indians turned three double plays for him, but they lost the game, 11-2, and the series, four games to three.

He pitched 6 2-3 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks, along with two strikeouts. When he left in the seventh inning, he received a thundering, standing ovation from the assembled 44,402 at Jacobs Field. Westbrook produced a splendid performance in a highly pressurized situation. Westbrook gave up at least one hit in each of the first three innings but the Tribe defense turned three double plays behind him to keep the Yankees offense in check.
9/30/07Westbrook’s sinker worked okay – not great – last night against the Royals. KC beat Cleveland, 4-3. Westbrook pitched 6 1-3 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits. 8/12/07Westbrook (3-7) pitched seven innings, giving up nine hits and four runs, and took the loss against the Yankees, who beat the Indians, 5-3, today. Manager Eric Wedge said, "Jake threw the ball as good as I've seen him throw it. I know he's not happy, because we lost the ballgame, but he did his part." Yeah! Where IS the Cleveland offense?
8/08/07Westbrook (3-6) won his second straight start to lead the Indians to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox last night. He gave up a run in the first inning, retired 12 in a row before giving up a hit in the fifth-inning, and then retired another 11 in a row.
