1/18/05Indians signed Cora to a two-year contract.
12/22/04Cora was non-tendered by the Dodgers.
12/13/04The Dodgers are shopping Cora around the league in the hopes of trading him and keeping Jeff Kent and Hee-Seop Choi on the right side of the Dodger infield.
7/08/04Cora has hit six homers in 82 games, one more than he had hit in a whole season before this year.
5/14/04Cora had to leave the game before the top of the fifth inning after getting hit on the elbow by a pitch from Carlos Zambrano. Cora was listed as day to day and may play tonight against Cincinnati.
3/26/04Cora is back to playing in games and expects to be in the Opening Day lineup.
3/20/04Cora is expected to begin playing games as soon as Thursday as he looks to get himself healthy in time for the season opener on April 5.
3/16/04Seven weeks after breaking his right forearm, Cora is expected to start facing live pitching this week. If he cannot progress quickly enough to get sufficient at-bats during what's left of spring training, he will open the season on a minor league rehabilitation assignment.
3/05/04Second baseman Alex Cora continues to make a speedy recovery from a broken right forearm and says he will play in exhibition games.
3/01/04Second baseman Alex Cora, healing faster than expected from a broken right forearm, has been cleared to begin throwing lightly. He plans to take grounders today and throw Tuesday or Wednesday, and hopes to be ready by the season opener.
1/28/04Cora broke his right arm playing in the Puerto Rican winter league and is expected to miss the next four to six weeks. The Dodgers hope he will be ready to go by early March.
6/24/03It appears Cora's opportunity to become an everyday player this season has ended as his long batting slump continues. Tracy last month said he would consider using the left-handed batter more often against left-handed pitchers, but that was before Cora's six-for-47 slump, including one for 17 on the previous homestand.
5/21/03Alex Cora has hit .341 in his last 25 games before Tuesday.
8/28/02Cora was released from the hospital Tuesday morning. He was back in uniform Tuesday afternoon and took early batting practice, but he did have a headache. Doctors will monitor Cora closely over the next few days, and when he feels right, he'll resume running and lifting weights. Though Cora expects to return this weekend, team physician Dr. Michael Mellman admitted Cora could be out "for days, weeks, or months. You never know with a concussion."
8/27/02Cora was forced to leave last night's game after being knocked unconscious and suffering a concussion in a collision at second base. He was kept overnight at a hospital for observation.
8/15/02Cora, who has put in long hours with batting instructor Jack Clark in an effort to adjust his approach, had three hits, an RBI and a run in Wednesday night's 5-2 victory over the Expos, lifting his average to .299. Cora has provided consistent offense hitting in front of the pitcher this month.
8/04/02Alex Cora started at shortstop Saturday and continued to deliver in an impressive season, getting a run-scoring double. Manager Jim Tracy plans to use Cora more down the stretch, cutting into the playing time of middle infielders Cesar Izturis and Mark Grudzielanek.
7/08/02The reserve infielder has contributed in pinch-hitting and spot-starting roles, batting .298 with two homers and 11 runs batted in, and his first-half performance, combined with the struggles of second baseman Mark Grudzielanek and shortstop Cesar Izturis, will net Cora more playing time in the second half, Manager Jim Tracy said Sunday.
6/27/02Cora started against the Rockies on Wednesday night, but Tracy insisted that Grudzielanek would play tonight against Colorado and this weekend against the Angels, and that he wasn't moving toward a time share at second base with Cora, who bats left-handed, and Grudzielanek, who bats right-handed. Cora went 0 for 3 to drop his average to .307.
6/24/02Reserve infielder Alex Cora, who bats lefthanded, is hitting .324 and has played very well at second base, and he may soon force the Dodgers to employ more of a platoon at the position with the right-handed Grudzielanek, according to the L.A. Times.
5/26/02Cora started at shortstop in place of the struggling Cesar Izturis on Saturday night, but Izturis will be back in the leadoff spot today.
3/28/02Cora lost his starting shortstop job to Cesar Izturis, but has made the team as a reserve infielder.
2/28/02Cora has a sore shoulder after diving for a ball yesterday. It is not considered serious.
12/13/01Cora will compete with the newly acquired Cesar Izturis for the starting shortstop job this spring.
6/26/01Cora returned to action last night after leaving Sunday's game with a contusion on his forearm.
6/24/01Cora left today's game in the fifth inning with a contusion on his forearm.
3/01/01With no serious competition in camp, Cora should be able to win the shortstop job in LA.
2000Cora started the season in the minors, but was called up on May 5 after hitting well at AAA. After being sent to the minors, he was recalled again on May 31, but won't see much playing time.
