| 3/06/23 | Getting Christian Encarnacion-Strand onto the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day roster. Back in the spring of 2011, the Cincinnati Reds were fresh off their first division title since the landing of Mayflower at Plymouth Rock in 1620. Jay Bruce had socked a homer into both the stratosphere and our permanent memories, and while the disappointment of being flushed out of the playoffs in short order by the Philadelphia Phillies stung, optimism was at a generational high when the Reds descended upon Goodyear, Arizona the following spring. When Cactus League play commenced that year, the certain right-handed bat emerged as an absolute dynamo for the Reds. After all, he had blistered balls from High-A to AAA during the previous year, hitting a ridiculous .342/.395/.507 in 564 PA, going from relative unknown to a player who began to flirt with Top 10 status in a farm system that was flush with talents like Aroldis Chapman, Devin Mesoraco, Yasmani Grandal, Todd Frazier, Billy Hamilton, Zack Cozart, and Yonder Alonso. The Pirates, who were 51-44 and led the NL Central by a half-game before play on July 20, dropped to 67-82. Jay Bruce hit an RBI double in the 10th inning as the Cleveland Indians rallied for their 22nd straight win to extend their AL record, beating the Kansas City Royals 3-2. | 6/21/21 | FanPost Friday: Who should be the Yankees' left fielder?. It’s been awhile, hasn’t it? It seemed like it would be a good idea to wait for the ebb and flow of the Yankees’ season to calm down a little before bringing FanPost Friday back. The last time we did one of these, the campaign had just begun and Jay Bruce was still the Yankees’ first baseman. Source: https://www.pinstripealley.com/2021/6/21/22542904/... |

| 4/15/21 | Challenging the Yankees' internal assessments. One look at the Yankees starting lineup on Wednesday tells you that things are not going to plan for the New York Yankees 2021. The Yankees have struggled to get their offense going and players such as Jay Bruce and Rougned Odor are getting regular at-bats. Their presence in the lineup displays that the Yankees do not trust their internal options and begs the question as to why some of those options were protected through the winter. | 4/13/21 | What Jay Bruce teaches us about the shift. There is a certain reaction, almost instinctive, among some baseball fans when talking about the shift — just drop a bunt down, half the infield is wide open, take what the pitcher is giving you. I want to home in on that last point. MLBers, the guys actually playing the game, have talked before about how hard beating the shift is, but it’s that particular phrasing that sticks with me. | 4/12/21 | View From The Other Side: New York Yankee Questions For Joshua Diemert of Pinstripe Alley. I’m not a huge fan of what Odor brings to the plate - the plate discipline especially is rough - but I think the team is hoping he can fill in at second, allow DJ to move to first (more on Jay Bruce in a second) and wait for Luke Voit to come back. Or they could just trade for Trevor Story like I keep saying. Giancarlo Stanton has just been a DH so far this year, is that the plan for the season? | 4/03/21 | Sánchez homers again, Kluber debuts, Yanks beat Jays 5-3. Gary Sánchez joined Elston Howard in 1963 as the only Yankees catchers to homer in each of the first two games and Jay Bruce blooped a two-run single in the seventh for his first hit with his new team in New York's 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. Two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber, limited by injuries to one inning in the previous two seasons, pitched around control problems to allow one earned run over four innings in his Yankees debut.
