12/24/24	Albert Pujols Offers Kind Words For Seattle Mariners Great Felix Hernandez. When the Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2025 gets inducted on July 27, 2025, the best hitter in Seattle Mariners history, Ichiro Suzuki, will all but certainly be included. The questions are whether or not Suzuki will be a unanimous selection in his first year of eligibility, and whether or not one of his former Seattle teammates will be joining him in Cooperstown. Felix Hernandez, the longest-tenured pitcher in Mariners history, is also in his first year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame. Hernandez is responsible for the only perfect game in franchise history, which he threw on Aug. 15, 2012, against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. This resulted in a great dispute and the game was eventually declared a tie and played over on Oct. 8 when the Cubs and Giants ended the season in a tie. 1939 — Brooklyn's Cookie Lavagetto went 6-for-6 to lead the Dodgers' 27-hit attack in a 22-4 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies. The St. Louis Cardinals are a young team and over the last few years, fans have had to watch several fan favorites walk away from the game after retiring. Since the retirements of Cardinals legends Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina following the end of the 2022 season, St. Louis has yet to make it back to the playoffs. Times like this are when Cardinals fans wish they could reunite with former St. Louis sluggers to help the team get back to genuine postseason contention. My minor league statistical evaluation methods had pegged him as a prospect for sure, but with #108 and #107 overall position player ranks in 2022 and 2023, he appeared to be far from a sure thing. Albert Pujols and Jim Thome were shortstops when they were drafted, believe it or not. Look at the Padre lineup - all seven of their primary field players, Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts, Ha-Seong Kim, Manny Machado, Jurickson Profar, Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr. - have played shortstop at the major league level, and all but Cronenworth have been regulars there at one time or another.
