8/06/25 Robert Suarez shares 'main goal' for Padres amid tight NL West race. Robert Suarez isn't just closing games — he's helping define the Padres' postseason mindset. In a thrilling 10-5 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Suarez showcased exactly why San Diego had no interest in moving him at the trade deadline. The veteran closer worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings, stranding inherited runners in the ninth and tenth before the Padres broke the game open with a five-run eleventh. “Everything was working for me today,” Suarez said through an interpreter. It was a gritty outing for Suarez, whose ERA since July has dipped thanks to allowing just two earned runs over that stretch.

7/26/25 Padres Could Trade Robert Suarez in Blockbuster Trade Deadline Move. The San Diego Padres are still looking for bats to help their lineup, and could unload the expiring contract of Robert Suarez to bring in the help they need. The Padres have an excellent bullpen, becoming the first MLB side in history to send three relievers to the All-Star Game, and could easily patch up the closing spot Suarez currently holds. After this year he has a two-year, $16 million player option, however he is likely to decline it as he could fetch a much higher salary in free agency.
