8/14/25 Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya carted off after injuring left ankle stepping on first base. Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya was carted off the field after injuring his left ankle stepping on first base Wednesday night against Toronto. Amaya’s foot landed awkwardly at the front of the base as he beat out an infield single in the eighth inning. Amaya twisted in the air and landed on his back in pain. Cubs trainers eventually lifted Amaya onto a waiting cart and he was driven off while holding a towel over his face. Amaya was reinstated from the injury list Tuesday after being sidelined since May 25 because of a left oblique strain.

8/12/25 Cubs Announce Massive Injury Updates With Two Stars Returning, One Starting Tonight. The Chicago Cubs are getting some major reinforcements on the way. According to an update from the team's official social media, a flurry of roster moves on Tuesday included the activation of both catcher Miguel Amaya and right-hander Javier Assad from the 60-day injured list. Corresponding moves included optioning right-hander Nate Pearson back to Triple-A and designating utility infielder Jon Berti for assignment. Assad has not pitched all season after dealing with an oblique issue throughout camp which it was known was going to cost him at least the first month of the year, but it proved much longer than that.

The Chicago Cubs go into the second half with a one-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League Central. Chicago isn't fully healthy, but general manager Carter Hawkins gave injury updates on two key players ahead of their series opener against the red-hot Boston Red Sox. Both Miguel Amaya and Javier Assad are dealing with oblique injuries. Amaya was having a great season before he went down on May 24, but Assad has been sidelined since Spring Training and reaggravated his injury during a rehab start in late April.

CINCINNATI --Miguel Amaya will be placed on the injured list after the Chicago Cubs catcher suffered a left oblique strain during Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Manager Craig Counsell said after the 6-4 loss that Amaya will undergo imaging testing in Chicago on Monday or Tuesday. Amaya suffered the injury during the fifth inning on a throw when Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz stole second base.
