9/07/25 Red Sox insider reveals reasoning team didn't pursue All-Star pitcher at deadline, instead opting for Dustin May. The Boston Red Sox didn't do much at the trade deadline, only acquiring reliever Steven Matz, and starter Dustin May, who they got after they couldn't get starter Joe Ryan from the Minnesota Twins. Apparently, however, the Sox did go for another All-Star pitcher; Arizona Diamondback starter Zac Gallen.

8/28/25 Red Sox's Sweep Over AL East Foe Concludes Historic Road Trip. The Boston Red Sox didn't need home cooking to dominate their American League East adversaries. After taking three of four games at Yankee Stadium, the Red Sox swept the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Before Steven Matz cemented the win with his first save as a Red Sox, MLB.com's Ian Browne noted the historical significance of Boston's road success.

8/24/25 Red Sox Lost 'Best' Trade Of 2025 MLB Season: Insider. The Boston Red Sox pulled off two trades ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline by acquiring Steven Matz from the St. Louis Cardinals and Dustin May from the Los Angeles Dodgers. These two moves are the ones talked about the most recently for obvious reasons. The trade deadline was at the end of July so the Matz and May deals are the freshest in fans' minds. But, these two aren't the only trades made by Boston this year. Among a few other moves, the Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers came together on a deal early in the season back in April to cut ties with 24-year-old starting pitcher Quinn Priester for Yophery Rodriguez, John Holobetz, and Competitive balance round A pick (No. 33

8/22/25 Matt Vautour: All wins aren't equal: Beating the Yankees Friday was huge for Red Sox. The most anxious among the many anxious moments for the Red Sox on Thursday came in the bottom of the seventh. With Boston clinging to its newly acquired one-run lead with one out, new pitcher Steven Matz came in and surrendered a sinking liner to right to Ben Rice. When the ball took a funny hop and scooted away from Ceddanne Rafaela in centerfield, turning a double into a triple for Rice, the path to doom seemed clear. In a park where lots of bad stuff has happened to Boston baseball teams in a week where bad stuff has happened against bad teams to this Boston baseball team, the table was set for more disappointment.

8/18/25 Winners, Losers Looking Back At Cardinals Wild Trade Deadline. The dust has fully settled on the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline. After plenty of rumors and an insane amount of speculation, the St. Louis Cardinals ended up making three trades. The Cardinals traded Steven Matz to the Boston Red Sox, Ryan Helsley to the New York Mets, and Phil Maton to the Texas Rangers.

8/11/25 11 depth arms the Red Sox could call up in September, organized by likelihood. 11 depth arms the Red Sox could call up in September, organized by likelihood By Hunter Noll | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article Arizona Diamondbacks v Minnesota Twins | Brandon Sloter/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article The Boston Red Sox find themselves prominently in a playoff race as we're entering mid-August. They didn't make a ton of moves at the trade deadline, but they did add a pair of pitchers in left-handed reliever Steven Matz and right-handed pitcher Dustin May. Even with those two additions, they'll likely need arms down the stretch. You can go down the list and point out potential issues. The Sox just designated Jorge Alcala for assignment,

8/08/25 Red Sox Blasted For Lopsided Dodgers Trade: 'Deadline Was A Disaster'. It's possible the Boston Red Sox may never escape the monsoon of criticism they've faced since last week's trade deadline. After talking a fairly big game about making impact additions, the Red Sox came away from the deadline with two rental pitchers -- Steven Matz and Dustin May. They sent first base prospect Blaze Jordan to the St. Louis Cardinals for Matz and two outfield prospects (James Tibbs III and Zach Erhard) to the Los Angeles Dodgers for May.

8/07/25 MLB Rumors: What's The Big Question Facing Red Sox?. Now that we are one week past the July 31 MLB trade deadline, it's worth considering the biggest challenges facing the Red Sox during the stretch run. Did the bullpen need more help than what Steven Matz can offer?

8/06/25 Red Sox Close To Bringing Back Flamethrower For Playoff Push. The Boston Red Sox have arguably the best overall bullpen in baseball but it's about to get even better. Boston's bullpen has some significant pieces and landed another recently by acquiring Steven Matz from the St. Louis Cardinals. The bullpen has been able to stay afloat, but it hasn't been at full strength. Boston has been dealing with some injuries throughout the campaign -- like every other team -- but is progressing in the right direction.

8/05/25 3 roster issues Red Sox failed to fix at 2025 trade deadline. The Red Sox leave the trade deadline in the first Wild Card spot, riding a five-game win streak and, most importantly, sitting above the Yankees in the division. Pitchers Steven Matz and Dustin May were brought in from the Cardinals and Dodgers, respectively, but fans expected more with names like Joe Ryan and Ryan O'Hearn linked to Boston.

8/02/25 Red Sox Announce Three Roster Moves Ahead Of Astros Clash. The Boston Red Sox are riding high on Saturday after they picked up a walk-off 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Friday night. Ahead of their upcoming game against the Astros, the Red Sox made a slew of roster moves involving their relief pitching depth. Boston ultimately had a fairly quiet trade deadline day, adding just Steven Matz and Dustin May into the fold.

8/01/25 What's been 'huge' for Red Sox trade addition Steven Matz this season. New Red Sox reliever Steven Matz's curveball has been a dominant pitch for him this season, unlike in previous years. Boston acquired the 34-year-old lefty from the Cardinals for corner infield prospect Blaze Jordan on Wednesday. The Sox activated him before Friday's game and optioned lefty Brennan Bernardino to Triple-A Worcester. Matz has gone to his curveball 20.6% of the time and opponents are batting .188 with a .205 expected batting average, .292 slugging percentage and .332 expected slugging percentage against it.

8/01/25 Red Sox make 2 roster moves, option lefty to make room for trade addition Steven Matz. The Red Sox have activated left-handed reliever Steven Matz, who they acquired in a trade with the Cardinals on Wednesday night. To clear a spot on the active roster, Boston optioned lefty Brennan Bernardino to Triple-A Worcester. Matz has posted a 3.44 ERA in 32 outings (55 innings) this year. “He's served multiple roles in the big leagues, but it seems like out of the pen the stuff has ticked up,” chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Thursday.

8/01/25 Ken Rosenthal Savagely Blasts Red Sox For Trade Deadline Failures. The trade deadline has come and gone, and nearly everybody agrees that the Boston Red Sox were one of the biggest losers. Boston got lefty reliever Steven Matz from the St. Louis Cardinals. They got Dustin May, a rental starter with a 4.85 ERA, from the Los Angeles Dodgers. And they came up empty in their pursuit of Minnesota Twins ace Joe Ryan, potentially losing out on other opportunitites in the process. That's bad enough on the surface, but if the Red Sox just look around at what their rivals hauled in, they have to feel even worse. The New York Yankees added seven players, the Toronto Blue Jays added four, and every other team in the American League Wild Card race added meaningfully. If

7/31/25 7-Year MLB Veteran Wants To Join Red Sox. Time is running out for the Boston Red Sox to add another piece ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline. Boston acquired Steven Matz from the St. Louis Cardinals late Wednesday night and now there is just a few hours to go until the trade deadline. Rumors have swirled all week about different starting pitchers the Red Sox have shown interest in but as of writing, a deal hasn't been agreed to. Most of the noise has been about big-name targets like Sandy Alcántara, Merrill Kelly, Zac Gallen, and Dylan Cease.

7/30/25 Steven Matz sent from St. Louis Cardinals to Boston Red Sox in late Wednesday trade. The St. Louis Cardinals have traded another reliever. This time, Steven Matz is on the move, and out of St. Louis. The lefthander is now a member of the Boston Red Sox. The 34-year-old from Stony Brook, New York, has gotten back on track following a poor start to his Cardinals career.
